1989 Evinrude 40hp w/ VRO2 -Compression 130-130 -Marina rebuilt carb, reeds, reed cage, put in new spark plugs last year (have receipt) -Lower unit good -Solid motor -Comes with controls -Have title The bad: Engine is getting too much fuel/oil (fouls plugs). It starts right up but dies slowly. This could just mean the carb needs adjusted, but since the fuel system was rebuilt, I doubt it. I had a marine mechanic tell me it's likely "running on the prime". I don't know what that means, but I got a STEAL on a brand new old inventory engine, that I can't pass up.... so I'd rather just sell it quickly so I can put the new engine on. My loss is your gain. This is a $1500 engine all day every day. The compression is the only thing that matters for 2 strokes, so adjust the carb or fix the likely priming issue, and you should be golden. Another thing I was told it could be, is the VRO system injecting too much oil into the motor. This I AM familiar with, and if so, you just block off the VRO and run pre-mix. Let me know if you have any questions, I like to be as transparent as possible.
