I have a 9 foot whaler that I purchased about 5 years ago and have it on Lake Winnepesaukee in NH. I did also buy a 9.9 hp engine and the total came to $3,300 for the boat and engine. I contacted Boston Whaler and asked if I could put such a large engine on that boat and was told by tyhe manufacturer that I could and I registered as having a 10 hp engine. It is safe and I can go up to about 23 to 25 mile per hour. and maybe a bit more. I have taken my wife on it but she feels that we might have a bit too much weight for the boat but I weigh about 165 lbs and she is about 135 to 140 lbs and it seems fine to me and we have had no issues. It is a lovely boat but I would get a larger engine than just 5 hp and when I contacted the company that makes it, they said that it had been tested on similar boats with a much larger engine and it is safe.

Thanks, Bobby
