Ipurchasedthis boat outs of a barn in Ohio thinking it was one of chriscraft'sexperimental v-8 boats, as there does not appear to be any holes for a changed motor. Many people know and acknowledge that Chris Smith experimented with Ford v-8engines but I am unable to prove that this boat was one of them. This boat ( according to Marainers Museum archives) was delivered to Jacksonville Florida on Mdarch 27th 1941 with a 60hp "B" engine. There is a tag that says it was registered by the Florida Board of Conservation #9667 whichexpired in June 30th 1959.It also has an Ohio tag from the Ohio div of watercraft # H-19248.
Boat has been fiberglassed so the main framing is pretty solid, but the total outside should bereplanted as the pictures show. Motor does not turn, even after I haspoured fuel oil in the cylinders. I took carb off and that is free and seems in good shape. It has a tag from Ohio Div of watercraft serial # M 00863 Steering, shift, trans, drive shaftcomponents are all there, with extrahdw. as pictured. Interior wood and seats are inpoor shape as the pictures show. Not much of the motor cover left forpatterns, but I"m sure measurements can be found.
Small Chriscraft projects are hard to find and great for theindividual workshop. I have restored a "42" special runabout and really love that boat. I have the originalbuild sheet from Mariners Museum along with other facts and figures! The boat cost $945.00 new!!!!!
Trailer tires hold air!! thats about all I can say !!! I have owned boat for about 15 years and am not sure how many years it sat in the Ohio barn. At 75 years and with health problems I guess I will never get this project done. Thanks for looking.
