Exceptional 2002 Checkmate Convincor 260, 26 foot go fast boat basically looks almost like new inside and out. The stock and factory original Mercruiser 496 MAG High Output engine linked to the Bravo One outdrive with 24 pitch 4 blade stainless prop will easily get the boat moving to over 70 mph (GPS tested) with no problem. The boat planes out quickly and has a really, really good aggressive sound when taking off. At around 4500 rpm, trim up the tabs, raise up the outdrive slightly and it feels like a turbo kicks in without even touching the throttle. This boat really pulls like a freight train. The red gelcoat is in excellent shape and shines with depth almost as if you could dip into the finish. I can tell you from my personal experience over the past 4 years Ive owned the boat, it gets attention every time I take it out and absolutely is a head turner. Its pretty much one of a kind here on Lake Wylie in Charlotte and has become somewhat well known in the area. The Convincor looks like its doing 100 standing still.
This boat was built by a small boat company up in Bucyrus Ohio, theyve been around for years. Everything is done in house from the hull design to molding / fabricating the hull along with sewing the upholstery. These boats are hand built with pride. The fit and finish is very good and the boat is definitely built like a tank with a lighter, thicker hull design than most other go fast brands. I took a tour of the facility shortly after buying the boat. Kip was in charge and was nice enough to show me around and give me a good lesson in boat building. It was really fun and as a result, I have a lot of respect for the brand. These are not mass produced boats and the go fast boat owners Ive met really seem to like Checkmate. Kip mentioned that my boat would have retailed for around $80 to $90 thousand dollars when new.
To my knowledge, Im the 3rd owner of the boat. It has only seen fresh water without evidence of rust or corrosion. The 188 hours are low for the year and the boat has spent a good part of its life indoors. In fact, the main reason Ive decided to sell is that we are not using it enough and spending more time on our pontoon. Guess Im getting old enough to where Id rather relax in the sun than go fast! This boat has a solid floor and hull, no rot, no rust, no corrosion, no mold, no damage. Most all surfaces look similar to new or like new. The interior is absolutely beautiful and one of the reasons I chose this boat. I really like the colors and the checkered flag pattern. There are even hand sewn Checkmate logos on the cuddy seats along with sewn embroidered checkered flag emblems on the driver / passenger and rear seats. Nice detail. The exterior checkered pattern and stripes on the sides of the hull are embedded in the gelcoat and are not decals. Again, this is quality stuff. It took me two years of searching to find a boat in this condition and with the right motor along with the style and colors I like.
The dash has a full array of factory white Gaffrig gauges with silver trim rings. At night, the dash illumination is orange and looks like a jet cockpit. There are trim tabs and a dash indicator to help you keep the boat level and cruising efficiently at any speed. The windows are low and sporty with a slight factory tint. The driver and passenger seat bottoms flip down for comfortable cruising while standing. The rear bench seat has three headrest areas that really look nice. This adds to the sporty feel. The boat handles and corners very well with plenty of power. The deep V hull cuts through the wake with ease making this boat an absolute blast to drive. Turn the key, hit the throttle and hold on. There is a large gas tank, 35 gallon I believe for making longer trips. The boat is surprisingly easy on gas though considering the overall power. There are plenty of stainless steel LED cupholders in the cuddy and cockpit for your favorite beverage as well.
Now heres the deal: Im a huge car and boat guy. Im obsessive about my vehicles. On this boat, every gauge, switch, bulb, mechanical assembly, etc work as they should. There are no issues with the boat. Its turn key and ready for fun on the water. Again, THE BOAT RUNS AND DRIVES PERFECTLY and needs nothing. Ive kept all the proper maintenance performed, impeller, oil changes (using Mercury recommended 25w40 synthetic marine oil), belts, hoses, fluid changes, gear lube, recent batteries, winterization, etc along with cosmetic upkeep, polish, waxing and interior detailing. The boat has rewarded me with extremely reliable operation every time weve had it out. I had the compression tested when I bought the boat. Excellent on all cylinders. This is a strong running, completely stock motor. No smoke, no leaks, no issues. My opinion was to leave it stock for reliability. The 496 MAG High Output has a factory rated 425 horsepower and really moves the boat well. Ive kept all the receipts and documentation for any work that Ive had done to the boat. I have a good amount of paperwork and accessories that will go with the boat as well.
Ive done an extensive amount of upgrades to the boat without ruining or compromising the factory integrity.
There are two completely independent audio systems that were upgraded from the factory setup. The cuddy entertainment system consists of a CD / MP3 input head unit connected to kicker full range two way speakers. The system also incorporates a new 12 volt high def 27 flatscreen tv with hidden off air antenna, HDMI inputs and DVD player. You can actually have movie night in the cuddy with surround sound and color changing / color choice LED lighting. The cuddy (also known as THE LOUNGE) is like a high tech living room, only smaller and looks like something out of a space ship. I have the remote controls for the LEDs and audio equipment as well. The cuddy has two nice bench seat sofas along with a porta potty (weve never used it) and a sleeping area big enough for two adults. The sleeping area can be separated from the sofas by pulling a curtain. There are also several good size hidden storage bins underneath where I kep life jackets, etc. Theres a pop up window with a screen also. Weve spent the night out on the boat a few times on the water and it was comfortable.
In the main cockpit area Ive also upgraded the audio with a bluetooth gauge hole radio along with a complete Kicker custom audio system and over the top LED package. The Kicker setup consists of 2 way 6 1/2 speakers along with 12 inch Kicker sub in a vented enclosure in the rear of the boat. There is a large Kicker amplifier to run the system. It sounds really nice but Ill admit I usually leave it off if were moving on the water because I like the engine sound much better! You can play the audio for hours and not worry about getting stranded with dead batteries. There is a factory 2 battery setup with 4 way battery switch that Ive found to be really convenient. All boats should have this. All cockpit cupholders were upgraded to stainless with LEDs along with a separate zone of remote adjustable color changing /color choice LEDs. The LEDS can even be set to pulse and change with the music. Pretty cool. The LEDS extend through the entire cockpit and engine area back to the area underneath the swim platform. I was careful for you not to see the LEDs themselves, just the glow. This looks ridiculously good at night as youre cruising along. Most boats just have standard blue LEDs but this one has pretty much any color you choose from the remote. You might be wondering WHY all this was added. I did custom car audio professionally for years and really love making things better with a wow factor. No holes were cut in the boat during the installation with respect to keeping a factory look. The A/V and LED upgrades would run over $4000 at a custom audio shop. Of course, Ill show the new owner how to operate all of the aftermarket items. Everything is really simple to use.
As for other upgrades, there are locks for both the expensive outdrive and prop, LED upgraded nav lights that are much brighter and will last way longer than standard nav bulbs, newer batteries installed, and LED lighting along with newer tires and wheels on the trailer.
Included items worth mentioning are: Boat Leveler adjustable trim tabs with dash indicator gauge, full array of Gaffrig gauges, engine cover electric opener motor, A factory fitting on the transom for easily connecting a garden hose to cycle fresh water through the manifolds and lower end. This makes winterizing really easy. Bimini top along with red cockpit snap cover and heavy canvas full length boat cover for storage, snap in carpet, stainless steel rub rail, keys for all locks, remote controls for all accessory items AND A FULL TANK OF ETHANOL FREE GAS. Also included for you to get right out on the water: life jackets, anchor with chain and plenty of rope, fire extinguisher and more.
The boat comes with a matching aluminum EZ loader trailer with recent tires and wheels along with upgraded LED lighting.
I have clear titles in my possession for both the boat and trailer. There is a current NC registration on the boat.
Ive just completed a full detailing of the whole boat including interior and exterior. The hull was just polished, waxed and sealed with Tech Shine. This will keep it protected and looking new with a deep shine. The batteries both have a fresh charge and a FULL tank of Ethanol free gas is included. Again, the boat is turnkey and ready for Spring and Summer fun on the water. This boat was built to go fast and be intimidating but still has a real fun factor. Everything from the Lounge cuddy to the entertainment aspects have really added to it. This boat was far from average when it left the factory but now its been taken to the next level with features not even found on new boats. Weve affectionately named her High Life. Hate to see the boat go but its someone elses turn to enjoy her like we have.
Youre welcome to set up a time to look at the boat. Im flexible on working with your schedule. Give me a call, text or email. The boat is for sale locally as well. I reserve the right to end this listing at any time. Ive done my due diligence to describe the boat to the best of my ability. Its absolutely beautiful but not a brand new boat. Youre welcome to inspect it in person and decide for yourself. This boat will not disappoint. THANKS FOR LOOKING! Brian 704 nine zero four 1512
