I acquired this 1989 Boston Whaler 31ft (37ft overall) 12ft beam vessel from the original owner in 2004 with 600 hrs, now 1540 hrs and its been awsome, but time to move on. Being a USCG 100T masters captain, electrical engineer and mechanic, I spared no expense in performing all the work/maintenance myself.. Original Cummins 250hp 5.9 engines. ZF220A 1.5:1 gears. Westerbeke 4.4kW diesel genset. Cruise-air AC/heat. 340 gal fuel, 40gal water, 6 gal hot water, 11 gal holding. Lee stand up rocket launcher and out-riggers. It was completely refitted between 05 and present at a cost of over $40k in parts alone. Electronics : Simrad RA42 36 mile lcd radar, Simrad CE44 10 chart sounder w/ airmar 1kW B260 xducer, Simrad AP26 auto pilot (the best on market). Simrad RS86 VHF. CD stereo with 100 watt amp and Bazooka sub woofer. All USCG approved fuel lines, fill hoses, and vent lines replaced. 3 NEW FUEL TANKS just installed in 2013/14. New silicon exhaust hoses and turbo seals. New gear oil coolers/lines. Rebuilt engine heat exchangers. 1kW block heaters. All engine hoses, lines and bolt on engine accessories replaced. Valve adjustment done. New Ratarian 6 gal. hot water tank. All new engine room sound down insulation. New Atlantic radar arch with spreader lights and hailer. Bimini enclosure replaced in 06. Props scanned and dialed in at Accutech. This boat handles like a sports car and tracks straight as an arrow in any sea, even following, with huge bronze rudders. 17-18kt cruise @ 2300rpm and 22 kt top @ 2600 rpm. Hull design provides extreme stability. Max Fisher, (founded Marathon Oil), paid over $200k for the boat in Dec 89 and kept it rack stored at his Palm Beach estate until my purchase in 2004. Hull bottom never painted until 2004. Original gel coat. This is a turn key boat, fanatically maintained, everything works and it'scapable of long range cruising/fishing and overnight stays in comfort. Well over $100k invested, Asking $42500 Call Jim phone

Questions
Jim, I apologize in advance for this message not being about purchasing your boat. My son and have a 1989 31 whaler w/250 cummins, has wing tanks, tower etc. We purchased as a project boat and have been fixing ourselves. We have extensive mechanical ability and have owned several boats. We are having an issue that we are a little stumped on. We have taken the boat out several times and it has performed well. It is under powered but we really don't mind. On several occasions we would go out with full fuel,5 people and boat would plane ok and get up to wot ok. Then we pull back to 2200 rpm cruise about 19-20. However recently we would go out ok then fish for a while, start boat to move and get maybe 13 knots tops with black smoke. Yesterday we had full tank of fuel with 5 people and got 9 knots and boat would'nt get on plane at all. Again black smoke. Recent repairs we did when we purchased the boat were. Injector pumps rebuilt, alternators rebuilt, new batteries, switches, fuel shutoff solenoids, new aftercoolers thinking they were clogged, Turbo boost is low but don't know if that is from props or ? We have done other items but just checking with a same boat owner to see if you have had any of these issues. Previous owner said props are 23 x 21 reconditioned 2 years ago. Boat is very fast at low idle in calm water which made us think propped too high but whaler says our "heavy boat" is correct with 23 x 21 prop. We are leaning towards turbos but just looking for ideas. Thanks again for your time..Dave Lovejoy
Is the boat still for sale ?
