Description:
- Own this very rare, historic example, of the Willis "Flying Saucer".Resisted due to previous high bidders inability to pay. As far as I know, only three Flying Saucers are known to exist, with one being in a museum. Famous for the category-dominating racers, the Willis Flying Saucer and the Willis Comet, Willis Boat Works, founded by "Pop" Willis, and featured in July 1953 Popular science Magazine. The article titled, "He Builds the Fastest Outboards"...magazine included in the sale.My Willis Flying Saucer is an all wood 12 ft. racing boat. This vintage boat is sound and in good clean condition, as shown in photographs. Absolutely no wood rot and a solid transom, with beautiful patina. Two motors are being sold with the boat. The first motor is a 1955 Mercury Kiekhaefer 25, 18 HP "Hurricane", (20246), serial number 861987. The other motor is a 1936 2.5 HP Evinrude OMC, model 4158, serial number 04585 (needs a new propeller). Both are in good condition and ran last summer. Excellent compression. However, be aware, as with any vintage outboard they may need work to make them run properly. This rig spends most of its time at car and boat shows, and not on the lake!Bottom painted last year, Gas Tank is as new.Trailer has good tires and packed bearings. 2" ball. Tow anywhere.Included in the sale are: Several old 1950's boat racing trophies. A vintage race type life jacket, paddle, brass fire extinguisher and other small hardware items.Boat is currently registered in the state of Georgia, and is sold with a Bill of Sale. Trailer has a title, and is currently registered in Georgia, and sold with Bill of Sale, as well. I am 72 years old, selling my collection of cars and boats thus, boat and motors are sold as a restoration project, that may require work. This is a serious sale. Bidders without 10 positive feedback, email me prior to bidding. Buyer will pay with a bank wire transfer within 48 hours of auctions end, and prior to pickup. Buyer is responsible for transportation. Sold as is. where is, with no warranty implied. Thank you.racing wood wooden hydroplane rare historic
