Beautiful Vintage Mahogany 1961 Wooden Boat. Last year of Thompson before Chris Craftownership. Power by 1961 Johnson.
The Thompson Bros. Boat Mfg. Co. started in 1904 by two brothers, Peter and Christ Thompson. Four other brothers eventually joined them .The boats were known for strength, beauty and light weight.Unlike competitor boats with caulking between wood seams, the Thompson Brothers developed a patented beveled overlap hull design (lapstrake), which was secured to oak ribs with bronze bolts. In January 1962, the company was sold, continuing production under the ownership of Chris Craft.
This gorgeous 1961 Thompson Sea Coaster just received an extensive professional restoration and refinishing:All original finish was stripped to bare wood, with new brightwork on mahogany receiving 12 coats, the final coat being wet sanded and buffed to a superb furniture finish. The hull was also stripped to bare wood and new super smooth Pettit white marine paint was sprayed to achieve a gel coat smooth appearance. Interior was removed and inside of hull was sealed with clear penetrating epoxy sealer, after media blasting to thoroughly clean.
This Thompson sea coaster is 166 long, 7 wide, and is easy to roll around in a garage. This boat was always protected from the elements and stored inside; used on Michigan lakes rather that salt water. There has never been any wood decay or wood replaced, which is extremely rare for a vintage boat!Retains extremely rare and original Thompson logo seat cushions and Bimini top with zip in side windows to make cooler weather comfortable. New boat cover. The vessel has beautiful chrome vintage original accessories.
From the stunning vintage mahogany dash, to the rare, original sparkle metallic steering wheel, this Thompson takes you back to the good old days. The air horns, lights and bilge pump all function. This was the first year withan alternator to charge the battery, there is also an amp gauge and a hot warning light to monitor motor. Original shifter has new cables.
Trailer Totally Restored: repainted, sandblasted, primed New tires, wheel bearings, safety chains, wiring, electrical plug, taillights, new carpet on bunks.
