1985 Sunbird 17' bowrider boat with Volvo/Penta AQ125 4-cylinder engine and stern drive unit runs good! Sale includes boat, trailer and accessories as listed below. Condition is Used. Local pickup only.Boat looks really good, but has some soft spots (probable dryrot) in the floor, stringers and starboard side of the transom unfortunately. Last on the lake July 2020. Outer layer of fiberglass is still intact and in remarkable condition for a boat of this age. If you enjoy working on older boats including fiberglass repair, and want a decent quality starting point, this might be the boat for you.Our family bought this boat used in the late 1990's and have enjoyed it for years, mainly on Carter's lake in N. Ga. It has a Volvo 4-cylinder AQ125 engine, and delivers a nice combination of fuel economy and performance. We typically cruise at 3500 rpm (3/4 throttle) and the boat goes about 22 MPH at this rpm (depending on load, chop, headwind, etc), and on a typical lake day we burn about 5 gallons of gas and tank holds about 17 gallons. It takes about 5 seconds to get on plane, and can easily pull tubes, etc. Boat and trailer will fit into a standard garage with 9'x7' door. Engine does not consume oil excessively and has a recent oil and filter change. I do not see blue smoke and have not had to add any oil between changes.There is a slight oil smell in the exhaust as these boats do not have catalytic converters. (I grew up in the 60's and all the higher mileage cars of the time smelled this way!) Engine also just had the "seawater pump" rebuilt with new impeller, bushings, shaft and seal, and a new voltage regulator and resistor installed on the alternator. Engine uses simple points and condenser ignition, and a Solex carburetor. Carburetor does not have a choke, and I usually pump the throttle handle about 5 times before cranking to let the accelerator pump add gas to help get the engine going when cold. Nice Dual radio with Aux in jack, and a compact flash slot that can hold your MP3s. Blue storage cover is shown, but if at all possible, store the boat in a garage as we did. It makes a huge difference in the appearance of the boat long-term. Carpet is in fair condition. Plan on using ETHANOL-FREE gas in the boat, as this is what it was designed to run on.
