This is a 34 1983 Silverton Convertible Cruiser powerboat with twin engines. The boat was inherited and is now up for auction.
The only information regarding the engines and overall condition of the boat is included in the insurance survey attached to this auction and bidders should not assume that the propulsion system is in running condition.Insured value is $17,500 - see insurance survey for complete assessment.
The inspection of the boat itself did not show any structural damage or problems. The hull of the boat and cockpit is fiberglass.
The entire representation of this boat is through the description contained here, the survey, and the pictures of the boat.As the boat was inherited we have no further information. As noted in the inspection, the boat was not pulled for the inspection and as far as we know has not been pulled for several seasons or more. She has always been slipped in covered a covered dock.
The boat is off-white in color, 34'feet in length and 126 wide. She has a draft of 31 and weighs 13,500#. Her brand name, SILVERTON, is well respected.
She is a great project boat and would make a wonderful family boat for a small investment. There is single bunk in the bow, galley, dinette, and head with shower. SHE IS A GREAT LIVE ABOARD HOME ON THE WATER.
Engines
The twin engines are Chrysler Crusaders with only 904 hours of usage. Engines have likely not been run for several years. Keep in mind that these engines may need repair or replacement. Please consider before bidding. The original owner claimed engine is in good condition.
Battery was tested earlier this year and had power.

The inspection was carried out at Piney Narrows Marina in Chester, MD. Purpose: This inspection was conducted at the request of the owner for use in the determining the condition of the vessel, and also determine a fair market value for the vessel based on its present condition. The inspection was conducted as an in water survey for purposes of insuring the vessel. No operational inspections were conducted due to the vessel being secured for the winter. The inspection was carried out using non-destructive testing and inspection methods per industry practices and the current standards established by the U.S. Coast Guard, National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) and the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC). Inspection Limits: Areas of inspection included; - Visual and percussion testing of the hull (above the waterline) and deck areas. -Interior, to include removing all visible access panels, drawers, sole plates and cabinet areas. - Bilge and Lazzarette areas. - Engine room to include, visual inspection of engines, fuel and mechanical systems, plumbing and electrical systems. Page 2 Areas not covered by this inspection include; - Wetted surface and running gear. - Operational testin of propulsion machinery. - Operational testing of accessory systems. Advisory: This inspection and report are based on a conditional survey with no operational testing performed. This report can be used as a basis for insuring and valuation of the subject vessel. Condition Report Hull: The general overall condition of the hull appeared to be good for its age with no signs of post manufacture damage or distortion. The hull appeared true when viewed fore and aft, and the vessel appeared to float with a slight port list as evidenced by the waterline. There was no indication that the hull had been modified or changed in any way from its original design. Random percussion and electronic testing of the hull above the waterline turned up no signs of de-lamination or deterioration. The finish on the hull is good with light oxidation. The exterior of the vessel shows a lack of any recent maintenance practices. The vessel was not hauled at the time of inspection. It was reported that the vessel has been in the water for several seasons without being hauled. Decks and Superstructure: The general overall condition of the deck and topsides appear fair with light oxidation of the gelcoat finish. The exterior of the vessel is dirty and shows a lack of any recent cosmetic maintenance. Random percussion and electronic testing of the deck and topside areas revealed no elevated moisture or de-lamination. The vessel has been shed kept for its life. This accounts for the good structural condition considering the age of the vessel. Deck to hull joint and rubrail appear well found and in good repair. All deck hardware is stainless steel and appears properly bedded and secure. Exterior lights and navigation lights were functional. Windows and deck hatches appear well found with no evidence of major leaks or water intrusion. Cockpit and Lazzarette: The cockpit is a typical layout for a convertible style of boat. Random electronic and percussion test of the cockpit sole were negative for voids or moisture. There is some gelcoat crazing and surface scarring of a cosmetic nature. The cosmetic condition of the cockpit appears fair overall. The lazzarrette is accessed through hatches in the cockpit sole. The hatches are well found with no suspect de-lamination. All steering hardware and rudder ports appear to be in good condition. The bilges are relatively clean with no signs of major water from the through hull hardware. The stringers, bulkheads and tie in tabbing in the engine room appear good with no signs of cracking or de-lamination where accessible. Bridge: The bridge area of the vessel is a layout for a boat of this design. The general overall condition of the bridge appears fair with all fiberglass surfaces lightly oxidized and dirty. Random electronic and percussion testing of the bridge and bridge sole found negative results for elevated moisture. There is an aluminum frame top that appears in structurally good condition. The fiberglass hardtop appears in good repair. There is a bridge cover that appears in good repair with moderate weathering. All upholstered surfaces appear to be in average condition for the age of the vessel. The helm and console appear to be good order, all controls and steering operate properly. There is a complement of electronics mounted on the helm station that appear to be original to the vessel. See equipment list. Page 3 Interior: The layout of the interior is consistant with a boat of this design and has the single stateroom layout offered in this model year. The general overall appearance of the interior is fair for its age. This boat has the galley down to port layout with dinette aft with seating to starboard side. A v-bunk is forward, with one full head. The condition of the fabrics, wall coverings and upholstered surfaces are generally fair. Headliner and bulkhead materials are stained with age and wear. There is no evidence of major leaking or water intrusion from hatches or window frames. All carpets show evidence of having been recently cleaned but are worn from age. All doors, drawers, hatches and closets are in good condition with no signs of leaking or water intrusion. All galley appliances appear to be original and are in serviceable condition. The windshield, side windows, decks hatches and port lights appear well found. All interior bulkheads, stringers and transverse supports appear well found where accessible. All visible tie-in tabbing showed no indications of dis-bondment or movement. Engine room and Machinery: The engines are Chrysler 360 cubic inch, 250 hp, fresh water cooled gasoline engines, installed in the straight drive, inboard configuration. These are the standard engines for this boat in this model year. The engine installation appears normal and well fitted for a vessel of this design. The condition of the engines show that at least normal maintenance has been performed when needed. All oil and transmission fluids appeared at normal levels and showed no indication of visible contamination. All belts and hoses are showing wear from age and several are in need of replacement. Engine wiring appears to be in good serviceable condition. The general overall condition of the engine room and machinery space appears to be good, with the bilges relatively clean and oil free. All seacocks are operable and the shaft logs are served by gland type packing glands that appear clean and serviceable. An inspection of the exhaust system found components on the port engine to be in good serviceable condition. The starboard exhaust system muffler is corroded and leaking. The exhaust hoses are heat cracked and are due for replacement. A check of the engine room mounted accessories found all to be well found. Fuel System: The fuel system holds 260 gallons (as per manufacturer label) in two aft mounted saddle tanks that appear properly installed and secured. The port tank was replaced several years ago. The starboard tank is original and is showing evidence of leaking. This should be addressed as soon as possible. The tanks are welded 5052 aluminum and manufacturers labels were identified. The tanks will vent outboard of the hull. All fill, feed and vent lines should be updated with alcohol resistant approved type hose. Note: As of the summer of 2006, Ethanol (alcohol) has been introduced into marine gasoline in percentages as high as 10%. Ethanol by nature attracts and blends with water and condensation, and has been found to create corrosion and deterioration of aluminum components in fuel systems. Ethanol has also been found to deteriorate the compounds found in fiberglass fuel tanks. It is recommended that fuel systems and components be inspected frequently and that the entire system be inspected by a qualified technician at least twice a year as part of normal maintenance practices Page 4 Electrical: The system is typical of those found on vessels of this design. The general overall condition of the system appears to be in good serviceable condition and in compliance with the standards established by the industry at the time of manufacture. DC: The main twelve volt batteries (2x27 series) are mounted aft centerline in the engine room and are run through safety switches. The twelve volt branch circuits are fed from the accessory electrical panel in the main salon. The circuits are protected by trip type breakers of in-line fusing that are in working order. The wiring under the bridge helm and engine room has some looe and un-terminated wiring that needs to be secured. AC: The 120 volt system is fed from 2/30 amp shore cords through main breakers in the main electrical panel. All branch circuits are protected by trip type breakers that are in operational condition. The installation of the system appears properly done using best industry practices. A check of all 120 volt appliances showed all systems to appear in serviceable condition. It would be recommended to install breakers at the shore power inlet plugs as per ABYC E-11. Other than noted the electrical systems appear to be in compliance with industry standards and practices in place at the time of manufacture. Plumbing and Mechanical: The installation of equipment and routing is consistant with vessels of this design. All components appear to be in good condition with no signs of leaking or corrosion. The water heater appears to be a newer replacement. The fresh water pump was operational. No operational checks were performed due to all systems being secured for the winter. Sanitation: Type III system with marine toilet. System appears in good serviceable condition, and in compliance with USCG regulations for inland marine sanitation systems. Fire & Safety: (1) 5lb extinguisher, (2) portable B-I and type -ABC extinguishers. #20 Danforth anchor with 9/16 rode bow mounted. 4- type II pfds. 1-24 Ring float, 2- rule bilge pumps, flares, Navigation lights. Equipment: Significant inventory but not limited to: Stereo, 2-Reverse cycle air-conditioning units, 2- 4 wet compass, Depth finder, Mecca flasher d/f, Horizon VHF radio, Ray 300 GPS, Dual steering stations, Stove, Refrigerator, Bimini top, Bridge cover, Misc. docklines, 2- shore power cords, . . Page 5 Page 6 Overview: The subject vessel is in average condition for its age but shows a lack of any recent normal mechanical maintenance. The cosmetic condition of the vessel shows a lack of recent maintenance to the exterior. The interior appears to have been recently cleaned and is in fair condition for its age. The subject vessel is powered with gas engines that appear in good condition for their age and show at least normal maintenance practices have been upheld. The boats exterior would be considered average. The interior and engine room show average condition for the age of the vessel. The port fuel tank has been replaced. The starboard tanks are showing evidence of leaking and will need to be replaced. This item should be addressed immediately for safety reasons. No operational checks of all systems and engines were conducted at this inspection. The Silverton line of boats has been around for many years and although the company went out of business due to the economic times, it is still considered to be a good dollar value boat in the mid range market for clean representations. It is the opinion of this surveyor that this vessel would pose a good insurance risk if the critical items on the findings page are addressed. Value The following are published values for the above vessel with no adjustments. Low Avg. High BUC $21,000 $26,400 The fair market value for any boat is subject to a number of variables. These variables include location, time of year, number of comparables on the market and condition of the vessel. The biggest of these variables being the condition of the vessel. The BUC scale for rating boats allows for price adjustments for condition. These adjustments range from (+10% for excellent to 50% for poor). The subject vessel is considered to be in fair condition, needing some minor structural and cosmetic work to the exterior, and would be subject to (-15%) adjustments for condition. In checking for sales of comparable boats in the local area, and advertisements in trade and over the counter journals that cover the East Coast several comparables were located. The advertised asking prices of these boats ranged from $7,500 to $24,000, and were listed as being in fair to good condition with varying condition. Several of these boats were re-powered, accounting for the wide range in pricing. Fair Market Value: Considering these factors and predicated upon there being no other significant hull/deck or mechanical problems other than those noted in this report, the estimated fair market value for this vessel in its inspected condition being sold with clear and marketable title, is established at: $ 17,500.
