WHAT OTHERS SAY ABOUT THE 44 SUNDANCER
This could quite possibly be the most stylish Sea Ray weve seen so far. A totally new model (model came out in 03, our boat is a 2006) and full of creature comforts, performance, and styling that would be right at home on the Riviera. But the curved lines dont end with the hull. Graceful lines are featured throughout the boat below as well as on deck.
Up at the bow was a windlass with a plow anchor and foot switches flush mounted in the port side deck. But in case you lose power, a hand crank is affixed to the underside of the starboard rope locker hatch. And for the captain that cant be bothered to walk forward to watch the anchor line slip overboard, there are also controls at the helm. As for the previously mentioned hatch, she has two of these, one on either side of the windlass. The lockers are spacious and have gas assisted cylinders to lift and hold open their hatches. You can always tell when a been there done that boater has been in on the design. As with tis boat, it has a wash down faucet located in the rope locker for cleaning the anchor before being brought onboard. Just forward of the port rope locker was a remote control search light with double bulbs for additional power and light. There were two large smoked glass hatches on the foredeck in addition to two stainless steel handrails with a roomy sunning pad made to fit between; the ladies will love it.
Moving aft on either side of the raked aluminum windshield were comfortably wide decks with ample stainless steel handrails. The lower center windshield opens and closes remotely and does a good job allowing air into the helm area. Well protected behind the windshield is the console and helm. From radar to GPS this baby is dressed to kill. Most of these fancy electronics are options, but you can equip yours as you please. The console is well laid out with rocker switches and large, easy to read gauges. The dash and console are a series of curves and angles that creates not only a very functional control center, but an eye pleaser as well. Wisely, Sea Ray has separated the throttles and transmission on either side of the adjustable helm. This test vessel was equipped with a full canvas enclosure that really helped on the day we tested the boat, a bit cold and raw.
When following the 340 out of harbor, the 44 seemed to gain so quickly that I kept checking the GPS to see just how fast she moved at idle. She was doing seven mph at idle with both engines ahead. This is not a problem but something to keep in mind when in a busy marina. Just alternate engines so only one is in gear the majority of time with the other in neutral. As for her handling at speed (up on plane) it was not very responsive. I tried to get her into a gunwale turn and it just wasnt going to happen. This gal needs turning room. What Im really saying is that she looks great and runs like a sport boat but handles like a 45-foot motor yacht.
I found power to be a bit soft in the low end when doing the 0 to 30 mph sprints. But hang onto something at about 1800 rpm because the turbos kick in and she really rocks. All this power came from a pair of big six cylinder Cummins diesels fitted to ZF, V drives and transmissions. As for the engine room, it was a bit tight between the engines, but access was relatively good to all areas. The engine room hatch is the whole cockpit area and I mean all of it. Needless to say, electric power is needed to open such a large hatch but there is near full-beam access once opened. This test boat had a Glendinning synchronizer installed, also an option.
The aft cockpit was definitely party central, having a plush wrap around seating arrangement on the starboard side. But to really make it complete, a wet bar is installed on the port side with an icemaker below. Getting to the oversized swim platform is easy for this area through the wide transom door. The transom cleverly has a storage locker built in that you can get to from the swim platform with just about enough room to climb in and shut the hatch behind you. So no more dragging lines and fenders through the cockpit, everything is out of the water and out of sight. Theres also a handy place for shore power cords, phone cords, skis, and boogie boards as well.
Down below, the continental influence is seen in the beautifully curved wood cabinets and plush leather furnishings. There are sleeping accommodations for six in three separate compartments, not bad for her size. Forward, is a large berth with storage below and richly finished cabinets. This master stateroom has its own head on the port side and totally separate shower compartment on the starboard side. There is also a hanging locker, entertainment center, hatch and portholes not to mention loads of storage in draws. Aft are the salon and galley areas just loaded with rich wood and soft leather. A beautiful couch on the port side has a long graceful curve and thick padding but wait, the seat pulls out to reveal two additional cushions and fillers boards that makes for a full size comfortable bed for two. The galley on the opposite side has all sorts of curved wood and solid surface counters along with an entertainment center not to mention all the appliances found in a very well equipped kitchen.
Just aft of the galley and on the other side of two wooden siding doors was the second head. It was smaller but still had a shower and a drain in the fiberglass molded sole (floor). This head is part of the aft stateroom that is also an entertaining area with a plush leather L-shaped couch that easily converts into a great bed for two more. It has its own head and entertainment center with TV/VCR.
In the salon was a very large sky light with shade that just flooded the area with tons of natural light. Forward was a hatch that did the same for the master stateroom. This particular boat was equipped with a built-in vacuum cleaning system located below the companion way stairs to the cockpit.
Quite a vessel all in all. Just looking at her profile gives you the indication of style and grace not to mention speed, and she has that for sure. She has big open areas, like her cockpit, which are usually only found on larger vessels. Here is uncluttered comfort with plenty of room to move around and not step over each other with style and curved lines at every turn. All this and the time tested quality of Sea Raywhat could be better?(BoatTest)SHIPPING AVAILABLE WORLDWIDE

Importing a Boat to Australia
We have some of the best rates for RORO-shipping to Australia in the U.S. and we serve the ports of Brisbane, Adelaide, Port Kembla, Fremantle, and Melbourne. Whether you are a repeat customer or a first-time buyer, heres a few tips and reminders about buying, shipping, and importing boats and yachts to Australia from the U.S.
Finding the right boat.Buying a boat from another country often means dealing with people that you never met or dealt with in the past. Theres tons of free classified ads and Craigs list-type re-advertisers on the internet with deals just too good to be true. If it sounds too good, then, youd guessed it, it probably is a scam.
Do your research. Be realistic. Partner up with a Pro (like us).
We suggest you deal with us. Each week we get shipping, export, and certification inquiries from some of the countrys well respected marine dealers. We work in close cooperation with country-wide brand name retailers such as Marinemax and with the brand stores of Regal, Chaparral, Monterey, Bayliner, Larson just to mention a few.
We are a fully licensed Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier by the Federal Maritime Commission and as such we operate our own in-house shipping company. We have exclusive contracts with some of the largest steamship companies in the world. As one of the rather few NVOCCs we have the authority to buy and resell space on ocean-going cargo ships and issue our own bills of lading. What does this mean for you? As an individual? Well, by contacting us directly you are likely to save considerable time and money by dealing directly with the contract holder (as opposed to a string of middlemen).
Buying a boat directly from us or through our brokerage divisionBoats International, Inc. is our own in-house discount boat dealership. We buy bulk trade-ins from the big retailers but we also buy from banks and individuals as well. For the past 20+ years our focus have been to absorb distressed inventory and floor-plan boats from cash-strapped dealers and resell these locally and overseas. As we now are completing our store expansion project (September, 2011) we will be able to take on even more inventory then in the past and also have space over to showcase brokerage and consignment boats.
Most of our international buyers rely on our reputation and expertise as a key player on the U.S. domestic and international boat market and they seek our help to source the boat(s) that they seek. If we do not have what they seek in stock well be sure to find it through our network of dealers and banks for the right money.
Whether your buying a stock boat from us or one from another dealer we are well equipped to assist you with every step from inspection to final delivery of your boat or yacht to Australia. For example we can help you or your client with:
Finding a Boat or Yachtthat meets (or exceeds) your requirements in terms of condition, equipment, and of course price
Negotiate the Deal(including but not limited to title searches, accident reports, previous owner status, etc)
Survey & Physical Inspection(we have a longstanding partnership with a number of accredited marine surveyors, mechanics, and experts in most regions of the country)
Closing the Dealwe often act as intermediary for international buyers as most of our overseas clients prefer only to work with one turn-key partner
Pre-shipping Logisticsonce the deal is done and the boat paid for we assist in coordinating haul-outs, marina loadings, boat ramp pickups and inland U.S. land transport/trucking through our in-house logistics company Boatlogistic.com, Inc.
Pre-Export Preparation Sanitation, Fumigation, De-gassing of refrigerants.Australia has (as you probably know already) very specific and strict import restrictions for boats and vessels. The governing body is the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) which is part of the Australian Governments Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Depending on the geographical location of the boat and the required preparation of the vessel we can either prepare the boat for export to Australia while underway, or we can have it completed at our marina in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Australian Shipping Services Teamour Australian Shipping Services Team assist with Sanitize boats & yachts prior to port delivery AQIS will stop all boats that are dirty and soiled to check for insect/parasite infestations
Fumigation of boats and cradles according to AQIS-standard (Methyl Bromide 3.0 lbs / 1,000 cubic feet / 24 hrs) De-gassing of
Air-conditioning Systems (AC) Refrigeration HVAC HFC HCFC Providing HVAC Customs Certification
With our certificates our customer are NOT REQUIRED to obtain the otherwise very expensive Australian import licenses.
Trailer Import Permit AssistanceThe Australian Governments Department of Infrastructure and Transport requires that all imported boat trailers have an Import Approval. You can read more about the approval at the Departments website or you can download the .pdf-application Import a Small Road Trailer here.
Import Duties and Goods and Services Tax (GST)If youre buying a US-made boat, according to the United States-Australia Free Trade Agreement, you arent required to pay the 5% duty (as well supply the required waiver forms). You must, however pay 10% GST on all costs associated with the purchase of the the boat, ocean freigh, duty, wharf charges, customs broker fees, and destination port fees..
ISPM-15 No Worries Mate We Fumigate All Wooden Cradles & Provide Proof of FumigationInternational Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and stamped or branded,[1] with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the wheat stamp. Products exempt from the ISPM 15 are made from alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).Customs Broker Fees & Destination Charges in AustraliaTheres tons of websites out there claiming to be the know-it-all for import questions concerning boats & yachts to Australia. Fortunately, we are not one of them. While we can recommend quite a few competent companies in Australia it is ultimately up to you to pick a customs partner in your home port. As is true for all facets of our business we believe that there are no shortcuts to sustained success in business (or life for that matter). That said we recommend that you seek the advice of an Australian Customs Broker who is licensed by the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc CBFCA-Australia Website to inquire about recent legal and import changes pertaining to your planned import.
