The advantages of gasoline power in a mid-30-footer are pretty clear. First is low purchase price. The 36s BH (before haggling) price is $345,903, not bad for a well-equipped cruiser. The upgrade to Cummins MerCruiser QSB 380 diesels will nick you for $63,017, or an additional 18 percent. Is it worth it? That depends on how much gasoline costs, how many hours you log annually, and what kind of a trade-in premium those diesels will yield in your area.So, basically, the gasoline-versus-diesel issue comes down to economics, right? Not entirely, and the 36 shows why. First, her MerCruisers make her way quicker out of the hole and more responsive through the midrange than any diesel couldand yes, that includes common-rail diesels. Combined with responsive power-assisted steeringstandard with gasoline power but optional with dieselsand big rudders, the 36 is a ball to run. And those big V-8s are smoother and quieter (thanks also to underwater exhausts) than diesels.

Down below, the 36 Sedan Bridge is well laid out. Beginning aft, the saloon area has a sofa and a love seat as well as a built-in entertainment center complete with a flat panel TV. The dinette, just forward of the saloon on the starboard side, seats four, and the seating bench slides open to provide easy access to storage. Down two steps, the galley sits to port. It comes equipped with solid surface counter tops, front-loading stainless steel dual-voltage (12V/120V) refrigerator and freezer, a two-burner smooth cooktop, stainless microwave oven and plenty of storage. Entertaining or feeding a hungry crew should be no problem on this boat. Twin bunks in the guest stateroom convert to a queen-size bed with storage underneath. The head and shower are in separate compartments port and starboard respectively. All the way forward is the master stateroom, featuring a centerline double bunk with innerspring mattress. The foot of the bed flips up to make a bench seat with additional storage underneath. Sea Ray has gone the extra mile here with plenty of storage and adequate hanging lockers. The Sea Ray 36 Sedan Bridge makes a great family boat for day trips, weekending or cruising. For a couple off on an extended cruising adventure, the generous and comfortable accommodations make it easy to invite friends along for the ride. I can easily picture this boat at the heart of any friendly raft-up or as party central on the marina dock.
