This boat has always been my pride and joy. It has been very well cared for in every way. Call me with questions, or to discuss after reading all of the following info in additional detail. Three Zero Five 202 four four four four.Approximately 30 days ago, I went to the boat for my weekly check-in. I found it sitting approximately 1 foot deeper in the water than it should be. I immediately climbed aboard and found that it had taken on water. It had just begun, as there was less than 6" standing in the downstairs area and the water was less than half way up the engines in the bilge. It did not get anywhere near the intakes or ECMs. It should be noted that it is kept at a Private Residence in mostly fresh brackish water on the Coral Gables Waterway. (Drainage canal) It was a freshwater boat until 2013 when it was brought to Florida. I immediately contacted the insurance company and began the painful process. Within 1 hour, towboat us was onsite and bailing the water. It was towed to their dock and two additional drop-in bilges installed - just for redundancy, as water was still slowly trickling in. Immediately after it was secured, they pickled the engines, even though no one believed water had entered the engines. THE NEXT DAY, I had a mechanic on the boat that ran both engines and the generator. He stated that he believed that no water entered the engines, and by getting them started so quickly, any water would be burned out anyway. 3 days later the boat was pulled and taken to a yard in Pompano Beach. On land, it became evident that the trim tabs were missing. Nothing was hit nor snagged - I had not even been in skinny water. The appraiser and I agreed that it appeared the screws were all removed - like someone was trying to take them. (Yes - I agree this makes no sense, but was the documented reason for loss) The factory apparently drilled some of the screw holes all the way through the transom plate - and this is where the water came in to the boat. It is assumed that the bilge or battery charger failed. The boat was on shore power when this happened. The current state of affairs: It is still at the yard in Pompano Beach. They did not have power, so the downstairs is still damp in places. There is some evidence of mold and mildew. The boat needs a serious dehumidification, a thorough cleaning, and limited mechanical work - and you could be back on the water. The cabinetry barely saw water - It appears to be 98% as new, with virtually no evidence of water damage. You may want to replace the carpet - as taking it out would help the wood floor dry faster. My wife is very allergic to mold & mildew and is undergoing immunization therapy for this and other allergies. I regularly go on long trips and stay on the boat. I would only feel comfortable doing this again if I completely rebuilt the boat. I do not want to lose 6 months of boating to undergo this process nor subject my wife to a potentially bad situation. I am selling the boat so that I can move on to another one ASAP. FYI - I have already purchased the replacement trim tabs and parts needed to correct the original problem that led to all of this. Questions
Hi There,
Im interested in your boat but have reservations about the water ingress.
I recently had a bay liner that took on water and it did $17500 worth of damage, batteries were replaced, all the wiring, alternator, starter motor, gimple bearing in bell housing etc etc etc.
