Your buying both boat and trailer. If you don't need thetrailer, when you get to where you are going you could sell the trailer for 2500.00 and you onlyend up paying 2000 dollars for the boat. Regals Commodore series is squarely aimed at the highly competitive and crowded Mediterranean-style express cruiser market. The 277XL hit a bulls-eye. The comfort begins down below in the cabin. The 10 foot beam and the six foot, three inch cabin headroom combine to give the main saloon a spaciousness rarely found on boats of such diminutive dimensions, at least in 1985. All the exposed surfaces of the cabin, from the overhead to the bulkhead, are covered with either teak or some sort of vinyl upholstery. Our interiors are a little more conservative: a little warmer than our competitors. The 277XLs tidy galley has room for everything but a conventional oven. There is space above the counter, however, for a small microwave. Theres also a stainless steel sink, pressure water system, recessed alcohol stove and insulated icebox: all standard features. An electric stove and refrigerator were optional. Plenty of storage space is included, both above and below the galley countertop. In fact, storage and locker space is well provided for throughout the boat. The forward sleeping area with its V-berth and mirrored headboard is cleverly separated from the main saloon by a door and two windows with shutters. With the shutters open, the main saloon seems even more spacious. Theres yet another sleeping area under the cockpit sole, separated from the saloon by a privacy curtain. The cabin does contain a huge (for a 27 foot boat) queen-size berth. Counting this berth, the forward V-berth and the convertible settee in the main saloon, the 277XL will sleep three couples, each with some privacy. The head compartment offers a full six feet of headroom, a built-in vanity and a shower. The 277XLs creature comforts extend to the cockpit as well. The 277XL has an innovative double-wide, reversible helm seat. When the cushions are reversed to face the aft lounge seat that runs across the transom, the cockpit becomes a comfortable conversation area. Theres even provision to plug a small table into the cockpit sole so the conversation area becomes an al fresco dining area. The high, slab-sided transom is particularly awkward looking. However, Regals designers seemed to recognize the boats warts. For 1988, the 277XL was given a face-lift, with new oval portlights, an integrated fiberglass bow pulpit to replace the add-on teak pulpit, a curved windshield, a radar arch and a walk-through transom door. These relatively minor changes, plus better hull graphics, somehow make the boat appear much sleeker. At the same time, the interior was redecorated. A molded fiberglass swim platform with a pair of built-in storage boxes will replace the 280s add-on teak swim step. Its a modified 16 degree deadrise version of the traditional roughwater deep-V hull with 24 degrees deadrise. This simply means that moving from the stern forward, the Regals bottom cants into a steep V shape with a fine bow entry. The result is a Regal with truly stately seagoing manner even in nasty conditions She rides extremely high despite her 8,000 pound displacement and, at speed, quite level. The hard chine has every opportunity to deflect spray away from the boat the hull design alleviated the hard cracks usually associated with this sort of running. The report went on to give the Regal 277XL high marks for hull integrity. Like all 277XL/280/290s, the Sea Trial boat had twin stern drives. With a pair of 260 hp MerCruisers, it hiked up to 4,000 rpm and 38 mph without hesitation, while consuming nine to 10 gallons of gas each hour. When the Regal 277XL made its debut in 1982, it sold just under $40,000.Needs new battery
