2006 Regal 2200 Bowrider
2006 Regal 2200 Bowrider
Regal is to boats what Bentley GTs are to cars. Powerful. Fast. State-of-the-art. Tasteful. Attention to detail. The Regal has the fastest hull design ever made.
I checked and the equvalent new Regal bowrider costs over $60,000 and they no longer offer the 325 hp motor, 300 hp is the maximum and it is a foot shorter - nor does that include the trailer.
The current going price for a 2006 Regal 2200 with trailer is $25,000. That is without all major servicing and upgrading done and usually with the smaller 5.0 motor.
I strongly recommend never getting the smaller motor in any boat. If you want better gas mileage just drive slower. Sometimes everyone blowing by you is depressing and smaller motors work harded - while going slower. You'll aways wish you had the larger motor.
RESERVE is $19,500. Buy it is $24,000.
Regal boats are absolute top-of-the line boats. A Regal is to boats what Bentley is to cars. High performance. Luxurious. Not gimmicky. Spacious. Well build. Prestige. Smooth. It is all the details that matter.
So does the incredible "Fast Trac" hull, which Regal holds the patent to. I thought it just an ad gimmick until driving this boat. It rides SMOOTH. FLAT and for a family bowrider is VERY fast. VERY. (I've owned drag boats to 45 foot cruisers, twin engine Cigarette to twin big block Pachangas and more.) The way the hull works really does work. The boat is fastest, smoother and gets far bettter fuel economy and any boat in its size, weight and power range. My drag boats were faster. But none of the other ones were, including our 26 foot with twin 300s. And it rides better than anything but 16 foot wide heavy cabin cruisers.
And Regal 2200 is excellent and 100% ready to go. Early this summer I took it to the Orlando Regal Dealership(not a shady tree shop)for them to go over EVERYTHING on the boat as we were going to drive to the Bahamas and with a single motor boat everything had to be perfect. Nothing was "wrong" with the boat, but we wanted all possible sources of potential problems addressed. Everything they suggested I had done.
This included completely disassembling the outdrive and replacing all bearings, shafts, bellows and gaskets, plus of course lubricant. If you are buying a used boat beware of worn-out outdrives that were not serviced. They cost as much as $10,000 to replace and they do wear out. This one is like new. They also suggested replacing the fuel injection pump ($1000) system, and other details such as replacing rather than the throttle cable rather than lubbing it, of course an oil change, two new batteries and various other small details. Mechanically this boat is totally serviced and like-new.
However, we are selling the boat and a couple Harleys we have due to medical expenses that have come up for my wife.
I have had boats for decades and bought many online. Here is the lesson I learned THE HARD WAY:
1. NEVER, EVER buy a fixer-upper boat.It will ruin your weekend everything time, your wife and family will come to hate the boat and not want to make any boating plans, and it will consume your time, money and NEVER really be right. THIS BOAT NEEDS NOTHING. All servicing done - minor and major - polished up and ready to go.
2. Get the biggest motor on it you can get. If you want fuel economy like a smaller motor, all you do is drive slower like you had a smaller motor. Bigger motors aren't worked as hard and it sucks to have every boat passing you by. Most 2200 Regals only have the 5.0 motor. That's not enough for a 22 foot boat in my opinion. Depending on how much it's loaded, this boat will run nearly 60 mph - and faster than other same size boats with a 5.7 due to the "Fast Trac" hull design. In fact, due to the FAST TRAC hull design it will outrun a big block in other same size/weight hulls using half the fuel doing it.
3. Pay attention to what the "woman" wants. She wants it to be CLEAN. She wants STORAGE space. She wants it to be a looker, not just a performer. For a 22 footer, the Regal 2200 has storage all around the boat's sides and bottom. Everything neatly packed away - even fishing poles and etc fit in the floor board locker. This isn't just an excellent boat, it is classically beautiful and functional.
4. Cracked fiberglass and worn out paint will never look good. No matter what you do.
FAST TRAC HULL: (ONLY ON REGAL BOATS) - AWESOME!!!
Over 20% faster and up to 30% better fuel economy!
I thought this probably just a gimmick, but it isn't. It not only makes the boat faster and with better fuel economy, but the boat rides smoother and flatter - you don't have to run high speed with the bow way up in the air.
What the FAST TRAC HULL does is causes air under the back of the boat. Air does not have the resistance of water, meaning the boat is faster and uses less fuel for the speed. Air also can compress - while water cannot - meaning the air absorbs most of the jolts and bumps. Overall, it is simply a superior design that works. It will faster, better fuel economy and smoother than any hull without it.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR IN ONLINE BUYING...
I have bought boats, motorcycles, cars and trucks online and from classifieds board many times. 1 in 8 are as good at the are presented. I assume the worst so avoid getting burned. If the seller won't bother photographing every inch of it, beware. If there are only distance shots, beware. Unless you SEE the reflections in the paint, assume the paint is shot. For boats, assume the gelcoat is cracked unless told it isn't (it is NOT anywhere on this boat).
Also beware if they tell you it only needs some minor repair. First, that's false. Second, if they won't spend a few dollars fixing it to sell, figure they never did any maintenance on it. We had the Orando Regal dealer go over the entire boat to prep to o open blue water to the Bahamas and back. Anything. Everything they suggested - though the boat ran just fine when we took it in.
This boat needs nothing and all major and minor servicing and updating just done. It is completely shined up too. It will have a full tank of gas and 1 year registration so you can take in on the water immediately - though you need to get it in your name of course. The title is clear.
It is too tempting to assume everything is right about what the seller isn't telling you. This is a disappointing and costly mistake.
I put a collection of picturesshowing every area of the boatin detail with full description of particularsonline of the whole boatand full description at dfwx.com/regal.htm
