Miss California was built in 1969 for a series that was a marine version of the Trans Am road race series. The class used 5 liter engines like the Ford Boss 302cid and the Chevrolet DZ 302cid, which this boat originally ran. Those engines have been used up and are now very rare, so the vintage rules now allow and are considered a 6 liter class and she is currently fitted with a 5.7 liter (350cid) Chevrolet engine. It is approximately 80 less horsepower that the original race engine, has a 7500 rpm redline versus a 9000 rpm redline and she is fitted with a water pump so it can be "putted around" instead of only run wide open at race speeds. The current engine is reported to run the boat to approximately 125-127mph versus the original top speed of around 150mph.She was run last year in a vintage race, I'm still working on what the results were.Mechanically She is completely sorted and can be started and run as she sits. There is nothing untouched/unrestored.Cosmetically She is very presentable, clean and original. The only issue is that the top layer of varnish has cracked all about the top deck.See pics. The cracks are not structural and do not affect performance.I hope you can see the level of restoration done on her from these pictures, she is well sorted and again very close to what she was when used in competition. Also included are two sets of the original working plans (6 pages). 1st set is THE originals, they are dirty and have nail holes, probably from where they were hung on the shop wall. The 2nd set are scanned and digitally "cleaned" copies. They are as new originals....only reproduced..very cool.Again she is Vintage Race Ready. She has a full tank of 110LL and is ready to roost.
