PackardGentleman's Racer
Oneof Three Built
Thisboat was specially commissioned by the President of the Packard BoatCompany in 1993 and hand built by famed upstate NY boat builder JohnFord and finished out by Gary Scherb of Old Time Boats inFlorida. A total of 3 boats were custom made and this was thepresident's own personal boat he used for pleasure and for boat shows topromote his Packard Boat Company. He owned it from new until hispassing. The hull is based off of modified Hacker Speedster plans,is powered by a modern Chevrolet V6 specially built by FlagshipMarine Engines in Punta Gorda, Florida and runs beautifully with adeep, throaty rumble. The boat is capable of speeds of 55-60 mph anduses hydraulic steering for easy controls.
Perconversations with both Flagship Marine and Gary Scherb, the wood issaid to be Honduras mahogany and coated with epoxy sealer with 12-14coats of varnish and still has a beautiful finish as it was alwaysgaraged when not in use. Boat measures 18' with a 5' beam and engineis said to produce approx 250 hp. While being a good pleasurecruiser, it is designed and built to be very fast if desired. Woodis in beautiful condition, no cracks in varnish as boat was alwayskept inside when not in use and out of the sun. No prior damage asboat has been pampered since new.
Titleda 1918 Packard, it was shown and enjoyed at various shows fromNY to Florida and was only used in fresh water. Trailer is includedand new tires were just installed on as well as repacking thebearings. Boat trailer title and boat title are free and clear. Very period correct steering wheel, classic looking gauges, hardware, etc. while being all modern running gear. Boat is designed to lookvery old while being reliable and easy to maintain. Running/Navlights, bilge pump, engine compartment blower all in working order. Stainless is beautiful. Boat was just professionally serviced.
