Trailer is a 1966 Dilly dual axle, VIN 38280.Purchased boat and trailer in 1990. Tore boat down to just the bulkhead and hull shell. Detailed/replaced/fabricated wood as required, including new decks, cabin top, vinyl, decks, full transom, hull exterior outer trim including outer keel, construction of a removable floor grid for strength and bilge access, rebuilding the Sharkomatic 800 drive system that was installed. In 1991 removed the 80hp 2 stroke Chrysler and installed a 1973 Datsun 620 pickup engine, rated at about 85hp. Fabricated fresh water cooling system which includes a cabin heater. Built custom water cooled exhaust system, and marinized a rebuilt stock carburetor for that engine. Intake is Coast Guard approved spark arrested, stock fuel pump vents overboard in case of failure and has electric backup. Has been a good fit for the boat and works well. 100 hours ago replaced bearings, rings, timing chain, sprockets and guides, had the head rebuilt, and replaced the exhaust header and cooling system for it. At the same time as the engine freshening, three years ago, I stripped the entire interior and exterior of the hull. Used penetrating epoxy on the whole thing, refastened (about 2000 screws, nuts and washers), varnished and painted. (Not an easy task!). Both fuel tanks were also replaced with 19 gal plastic in the sidewalls. Kicker taken apart and detailed, could use a repaint. In 1990 when I got the boat, I took the trailer apart, had it sandblasted, primed, and painted with epoxy paint. Three years ago I replaced the axles and beefed up the tongue. Note, license plate lens needs to be replaced, and probably could use a new tongue jack. Cable has been replaced with strap. A little paint touchup wouldn't hurt either, but it's not too bad.I replaced the boat battery as I had 'borrowed' the one in it for my tractor. Age-wise, it was due for replacement anyway. The compass that should be on the dash is in my house to prevent freezing damage.I have showed her at the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival for 4 years. Had a lot of attention, as it always does wherever I go, be it on the water, trailer, at the gas station, or in transit somewhere. Been a lot of fun, relatively dependable (never needed a tow), and is in good shape considering all I did was salt water. I was meticulous about cleanup.I am selling it primarily as age set in. Owned her for 27 years!A few years ago I almost gave up on it, facing the refasten. After boat shopping for something new, I decided to do what needed to be done, it was just not the same. There is something about varnished wood! All laps and underwater hull parts sealed with 5200, boat does not leak and wood keeps dry.I know of maybe three other Thompsons, one of which sees water. The other two were different years and in dire need. That is a few years ago. As far as I know this is the only 1961 Thompson Cuddy left, and one of a very few West Bend Sharkomatic 800 outdrives in operation. I do have a spare for parts. It is a manual outdrive using a Chrysler lower unit. I ran a line to the lower unit to a container in the engine compartment so I could monitor lower unit oil and keep water intrusion at bay. The unit was rebuilt along with all the engine work aforementioned including a new water pump.Old age is setting in and it is time to pass the baton! She is very stingy on fuel, cruises at 17-20 MPH at around 3200 RPM, but will do 24 at about 4000, but I don't go there much. Depending on loading, manifold vacuum runs at around 6" at cruise. The thermostat sticks a bit on warm-up but always comes down, it is a 165 degree and probably should be replaced, and easy task.Clear title on boat and trailer.
