If you are a lover of antique, vintage watercraft you have just made the ultimate find. This Switzer Craft Deluxe 17' vessel is the last of it's kind. This boat was purchased from a third generation member of the Switzer family. I bought it from the son and grandson of the founders or the Switzer Craft Boat Company. All of which have the good fortune to still be alive and well. Grandpa is in his 90's. My intention was to fully restore the boat to the perfection it was the day it was delivered. (Health issues has ended my ability to continue). All Switzer boats were each hand built to perfection. Once restored, all three grandpa, father and son were going to sign the boat for me to add to it's nostalgic value at which time I intended to retire the boat to the maritime museum. Until then however have been having to much fun with the boat. Everywhere the boat goes it draws tremendous attention. The boat has been towed to many shows behind a 1957 Chevy painted very similar colors, and has won numerous "People's Choice Awards."Anywhere you take this boat it is a head turner. It becomes the talk of the waterway. It has a very unique hull design, which draws incredible attention.
This boat is all the original 1959 wood, which is perfect. The windshield is crystal clear. The boat still has the original cable and pulley style steering in great shape. Evinrude throttle cables, battery and gas lines are also all in good shape. Boat still has two original six gallon fuel tanks, however I would recommend replacing them just due to age. The boat does require a new marine battery. Lights, speedometer, compass and electric horn all work. All gages and switches installed in dashalso work. Has three rod fishing pole holder mounted on port side. New fire extinguisher also required.Starboard side stern gunwale has a Shakesphere ship to shore antenna mounted. Boat also has center venting windshield. All vinyl, center topside forward deck, gunwale edging, seats and flooring is in good shape. No rips, tears, cuts, orscrapes. Very minor seat fading. Boat has only been a fresh water vessel. However entire boat requires a good scrubbing. Small section of rubber floor edging needs reattaching. Rear seat is entirely removable to access bilge area. This boat can be used as is for fishing playing etc., or with some minor cosmetic work could once again be a beautiful award winning showpiece.
The winning bidder would have the ability to speak to the original designer and builder of this vessel to answer questions regarding the construction of the boat and it's history. This is an opportunity to own a true piece of maritime history. The last Switzer 17' Hand Built Custom to exist.
The boat also comes with the original Dex trailer. It has some surface rust and the Flat style plug attachment needs replacing. Additionally, the current tires are both bad, however new tires should be in place prior to end of auction. The boat is stored out of the elements in a private secure storage facility. Engine has been winterized for the upcoming 2015/2016 winter season.
