Sea-Doo Updates the Speedster 200 with More PowerBy Capt. Bob SmithWhen I saw the Sea-Doo Speedster 200 moving around the bend at the marina, I thought I was in for a thrilling test of a very quick boat, and I was not the least bit disappointed. Bombardier now powers these sportboats with the powerful and efficient Rotax-4-TEC 3-cylinder engines. Our Speedster 200 came equipped with the 430-hp engines, but Sea-Doo also offers at 310-hp power package for the thrilling ride todays generation demand.BowUp front, the bow has seating for three or more with grab handles within easy reach. Seat bottoms lift up to reveal storage compartments that can double as coolers for all the refreshments you will need during an active day on the water. Sea-Doo provides ample storage space throughout this model; in addition to the storage below the seats, there is another space in the sharply angled nose that is large enough for a bunch of life jackets as well as line and an anchor.Companion PodThe helm and companion pod resemble a jet fighters cockpit. These pods are designed for low wind drag and feature small windshields with pop-up air dams to deflect the air from the rider. The pull handle, that releases the sun pad/engine hatch with superior ease, is conveniently situated within the companion storage compartment. On front of this compartment is a 12 volt connector for powering an MP3 player or cell phone, a Clarion AM/FM CD player, as well as a deep and dry glove box. Next to the adjustable bucket seat is a grab safety handle and a speaker.Helm StationThe top of the helm station lifts to reveal a small insulated box which can be used as an ice chest and it can be removed to access the back side of the instruments when adding to your console. The instrument cluster is ergonomically arranged for easy view when underway complete with black faces and white lettering. The throttle and shifter on the Speedster 200 are performance style with separate throttles for each engine giving great control and Sea-Doos exclusive One-touch Inlet Clearance switch saves you from having to clear out seaweed and other debris from the back of the boat. Behind the helm seat is another set of drinkholders, grab handles and a step-up on the side for safely reaching a pier or dock.SternThe sun pad on this model pops up with the aforementioned release handle located in the companion pod. The rear storage compartment with gull-wing openings allows quick and easy access to life jackets and ski lines. The stern light storage and the battery switch are tucked into the starboard side in here, and with the entire pad popped open, there is complete access to your stored items. The engine hatch easily lifts up from below the sun pad to gain excellent access to the twin Rotax 4-TEC engines. This model has a telescoping ski tow post getting the raising the tow line for advanced better tricks. It quickly pops up into place or down and out of the way for relaxing on the sun pad.The generous swim platform has a large center grab handle, two additional handles across the edge of the platform, and a telescoping swim ladder tucked under the platform.Specifics and PerformanceThe Speedster 200 is 199 length overall with a beam width of 80.
