24 ROS PICNIC BOAT, (2001)
Dont be misled by the designers choice of the word, (Picnic) to describe the ROS 24. She has a comfortable basic interior but by no means is She plush, (see photos). More to the point, the ROS 24 is renowned in New England for being a well built workboat, She is rugged, stable and able to withstand rough going. She's ideally suited for commercial or recreational fishing. And indeed, She will also serve well for that occasional picnic cruise, however, She is primarily a rugged stable tri-hull, deep forefoot work boat.
This particular ROS was used during the summer for occasional weekend commutes between Warwick and Prudence Island. Her most accurate usage record would read, occasional weekend commutes for the first 4 years, left on the hard for the next 7 years, (and then after my purchasing Her), used very infrequently for the next 5 years. If youre thinking She might look pretty good, youd be right. She's Inboard/Outboard powered. Admittedly, Her hull has somewhat faded Red gel-coated but its Her only flaw. As too the important stuff, Her complex wiring is very neat and well documented. Her engine has 320 honest hours, however, due to its long layup, has been pulled down, checked completely and then rebuilt. The list of replaced parts is provided below. The original outdrive had been shipyard removed for routine maintenance. Apparently it was lost sometime during the long layup period. It was replaced with an SEI professionally rebuilt stern drive assembly. Both the motor and outdrive are in perfect shape and run very smoothly.Neither has the slightest of problems. They look brand new, run like brand new, and essentially are brand new.
Her trailer is float-on type with the following new items: oak beds, a 4 four foot hinged foldable tongue extender, stainless fasteners, springs, running and loading guide lights. The lighted load guides and the trailer tongue extender simplify launch and retrieval. Tires are in reasonably good shape.
Electronics are somewhat dated but were top models for their time. The GPS/Chart plotter works perfectly, (see photos). The Depth sounder is of very good quality, which is further augmented by the addition of a new high quality transducer. The radar, though it works perfectly, is a bitlong in the tooth (not color). Theres a back-up hand held GPS and Electronic Compass. The electronic compass feeds heading data to the radar, gps/plotter and depth sounder. The AM/FM radio leaves something to be desired. Speakers are great but the radio has too many menus and buttons for my taste.
As is evident from photos this ROS is really a gem, Shes very neat and clean and everything works perfectly. A comparable new ROS would cost over 70K, (without the equipment). She is priced right and ready to go. Even the gas tank is full.
