Up for bid is a 1976 Renegade jet boat/drag boat with a 351W Ford Windsor. This is not a show boat or a race boat. It is a fun river/lake boat that we mainly used for swimming on the Suwannee River. It is very easy to maintain much simpler than an outboard motor.
Bid with confidence if you come to pay for the boat and it is not as described, we can negotiate or you can back out of the deal. I live close to the Suwannee River so we can test drive it before purchase. I will only accept cash no checks or other payment methods. Buyer is responsible for shipping/delivery.
I have a video posted to Youtube of the boat starting and running at https://youtu.be/6S1ND3KxUK4 If you would like other photos just let me know.
The boat is 159 plus the length of the jet drive. It has a clear Florida title. Florida does not give titles for these types of trailers but I will provide a bill of sale if needed. Both the boat and trailer registrations are good through September 2018.
The engine numbers are for a mid/late 1970s Mercruiser sterndrive but the motor mounts have been modifiedso this is likelynot the original engine. The 351 runs strong and does not smoke.
The jet drive is a Jacuzzi 12YJ/B. Factory rudders are the break-away design and are still available for purchase. I installed a homemade rudder that will break away if a log is struck (or a manatee or sturgeon if you run the Suwannee).
I only run Mobil 1 full synthetic 15W50 (zinc additive) and will include a new 5 quart jug with the boat. I only use Motorcraft oil filters. I do not have a manual but can give you a link to the online Mercruiser manual that I used for the tune-up specs. The distributor is the stock Prestolite marine and the carb is the original Rochester 2 barrel.
A plywood deck was added to the front as a swimming/jumping platform because the fiberglass deck of the boat is not strong enough to jump off of. The fiberglass deck also has a patch under the plywood deck. The white paint is an acrylic by Richards (a local Florida company) for pool deck and patios (wet environments). The PVC screw cap covers the original fuel tank filler cap.
The red and black paint on the boat is not original and shows normal signs of aging/wear. The photos make it look better than it does in person.
The gauges work although the fuel gauge usually needs a finger tap to wake up. The oil pressure reads about 55 PSI at startupand 45 to 50 PSIafter warmingup. The engine temp readsaround 140 when warmed up (142 degree thermostat). The voltmeter reads a little over 12 volts when running. Toggle switches control the bilge pump, horn, and lights.
The battery is a marine deep cycle from 2016.
The trailer is also from 1976 and is rusty underneath but the frame/structure is solid. The wheel bearings were repacked within the last 6 months and new inner wheel seals were installed. The Bearing Buddies were cleaned and new dust caps were added. The lights works properly and a new weld-on coupler has been installed. The aluminum rims are new and the tires have lots of tread left with no cracking. The old steel rims are included with the purchase. The lugs are bolts instead of studs and I will include the 13/16 socket (for a 1/2 drive) that fits the lugs.
The seats show normal wear for a boat this age. There are few seams that have come apart as the photos show.
What would I do to itif I werent going to sell it? Probably install a deck plate in the center floor area. When I installed the deck plates in the rear beside the engine, the foam was wet but the wood stringers are coated in fiberglass so they do appear to be wet. I would add the center deck plate to check the condition of the center stringer. I would also add a pedestal fishing seat to the front deck - but we're moving next year to an area that has no nearby water.
The following items have been installed since Ive owned the boat and I have most of the receipts for these items.Carb rebuild kit (factory/stock settings)Seachoice electric fuel pump (USA made) with oil pressure cut-off switch (Carter)Rubber 45 degree exhaust turn-downs. These direct some of the sound towards the water. This boat is fairly loud but not near as loud as a drag boat with headers that exit above the transom. Thermostat
Water intake filter with removable housing for cleaning the filter. This filter has a garden hose hook-up for test running at home.
U-joints (Spicer -USA made). There is a hole in the Indmar bell housing so that the inner u-joint can be greased.
USCG fuel lineFumoto oil pan drain valve allows for a complete oil change without removing the engine from the boat. Just run a drain hose through the hull drain and connect it to the valve nozzle.
Sierra fuel/water separator
Edelbrock aluminum exhaust manifolds the original cast iron manifolds are included with the purchase. The aluminum manifolds are 100 lbs lighter than the iron ones.
NAPA starter
