Selling rare "barn find" 1969?-70? Nova Marine 24' Powerboat. This boat previously belonged to a friend of mine who passed away.He had it stored in the back of his shop since late 1973. In a nutshell, this boat has very low hours and VERY high potential. It is equipped with twin Ford Holman & Moody 302 CID (235 hp) V8 engines. Holman & Moody was Ford's "go to" engine builder for everything from Nascar to offshore boat racing back in the day. These particular engines are 10.5/1 compression, hydraulic cam versions of the somewhat more potent 273 HP versions that were also offered in that era. Engines are equipped with Mallory distributors, and Holley carburetors, both of which I recently rebuilt. Engines both start and run very well. They sound very "healthy" and both have over 40 PSI oil pressure at idle. It wouldn't take a whole lot to get these engines closer to the 300 HP range with the addition of some modern day cam, intake, carb and intake components.
I had entertained the idea of doing it myself and keeping the boat, but now find myself with too much other stuff going on right now.Alternatively, I may end up parting this thing out, as I know that it would be far more profitable. That would, I think, be a shame because these boats supposedly have quite a following and were supposedly THE boat to have in their day. Still a heck of a boat TODAY. Anyway...enough of the history.
Engines are mated to Borg Warner "Velvet Drive" transmissions and Crusader Marine V-drives. Engines and all drive train components seem very sound and appear to work just as they are intended. Please see pictures for any specific component info. Tags and specs are very legible, but please feel to email with any questions that pics don't answer. I am not really much of a "boat guy," but have been working on Ford performance engines for years and will do my best to answer any and all questions.
The hull is in extremely sound shape, no major defects, damage, soft spots, etc. Gel coat finish is nice, no cracking or stress marks.
The sale includes the trailer, which is from the 60's but is still pretty roadworthy. It originally had a surge brake hitch, which has been replaced with a new standard 2" ball-type hitch. Trailer currently has no brakes, but could easily be fitted with standard Dexter electric brake units for around $300.00 per axle. Tires are old H78 bias-ply type, but are in very good condition with a lot of tread and NO dry-rot or cracks. Trailer springs are sound, no broken leaves, center bolts, etc. Trailer actually pulls pretty nice.
Not much else to say. As I said, feel free to email any questions and I will answer to best of my ability.
Thanks for your interest and Good Luck bidding!
