1980 Midnight Express 30 Open located just out side of Fort Worth, TX.Let me start off by saying this boat has a presence about her. Even as a 1980, basic white with gray and black accents this boat gets wide eyed stares. People slow down or speed up on the highway to take pictures or get a good look. From hitch tip to locked up - "trailering position" tip of the motors she's 40' long. You had better know what you're doing when you back down that boat ramp because every eye in the place will be on you, waiting to hear those giant 2 stroke, V8 roar to life and see, what I can only describe as one of the sexiest boats ever made, slide off that trailer. Gives me goose bumps just thinking about it. I am not looking forward to selling this boat. I love this boat. But I have to let it go for a number of personal reasons. I hope my loss is your gain and you can give her the second home and TLC such a boat deserves.Little history and detail:Midnights were probably made famous to the rest of the world when they were the boat of choice for popular Movies/TV shows like Miami Vice (TV got it right that time!)This particular boat was caught in Biscayne Bay "running like a bat out of hell" acording to one LEO there the night she was busted with 2,000 lbs of Marijuana in the hull in '83 and purchased from a police auction shortly after.Referbished and repowered with Evinrude Limited Edition 275's tuned up to 300-325hp by second effort racing in Miami in 1985, she was trailered to the high desert of NM. Fresh water only from then on and her cargo went PG, only hualing around a family of 6 and their camping gear during summer break, maybe the occasional dare devil water skier or tuber. Barn kept until 2015. New interior being of 2017, garaged since. Has not seen water in years. Condition of motors is unknown, planned to re-power to something more powerful, efficient, and reliable. The wood trimmed hole onto of the helm is for the compass. I had it referbished by the manufacturer and added an LED light, it is not included but available for an additional $450. Comes with aluminum trailer w/ surge breaks and spare tire. Trailers very well. Buyer responsible for pick up, delivery is available if agreeable terms are met for both parties..Beautiful boat with a rich history. Low hours. Needs some TLC, is not turn key/water ready but is sound. The custome aluminum jack plate, giant trim tabs, deep V-dry hull, all make for an incredible boat that demands an experienced captain and gives thrills for days. 80+ mph with current power set up but I've heard of these boats doing 100+ smoothly with more power. There really isn't such a thing as too rough of conditions for a boat like this if your body can take the beating I guarantee she can too. Some of the best days in here were ripping through 6 foot+ swells like nothing. We did it because no one else on the lake would dare go out so we had the whole place to ourselves. You could almost see the awe and jealousy on their faces as they looked on from shore.Midnights are still the boat of choice for the United States Law Enforcement community(coast guard, DEA, etc.) And these 80's hulls are a often sought after by tour companies for their tough and dependable qualities, aka: Built like a tank! Why? Because the old saying goes... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em!Literally built to race out to open sea, bump up against a freighter in the middle of the night, get loaded with thousands of pounds of narcotics, then run back across the gulf stream, and be faster than anything the police were running at the time. That demand makes for one hell of a solid and sleek boat!I would love to keep this boat, lots of rich history and family history tied to it but I cannot afford to give it the attention it needs and no longer live any where near a body of water large enough to run her wide open. Looking for a good home, I do not just want to dump her anywhere. With some cosmetic touch-ups and newer motors I would probably be asking over $85,000. This is a bargin buy!
