I am selling my Klem Outrider Boat. This is the original production prototype made by Concordia Custom Yachts in South Dartmouth Massachusetts, makers of the America's Cup sailing ships. These boats, depending on features included, sold between 50 to 80 thousand dollars and were capable of going up to 140 mph. The Klem boat measures 19.5" long and 5.5"wide at the body and 9.5" wide from wing tip to wing tip.The Klem OutRider is an aerodynamic boat with a water prop that uses air as its principle source of lift, stability, and control. Like an airplane, the OutRider has been shaped by the wind, and every major feature has a specific purpose. Tested and proven in the wind tunnel, the hull is an NACA airfoil section that has been re-cambered to work better in ground effect. To reduce stalls even at very high angles of attack, OutRider's leading edge is swept back 60 degrees. The cowl in front of the pilot is shaped like the cowl of a racecar to minimize wind buffeting around the people in the cockpit. The headrest is shaped to work with the windshield and cockpit sides to raise the path of high-energy air up over the pilot and passengers, and then re-attach to the hull. The twin tails help control the wind vortices that occur at the sides of any lifting surface, directing them up to the outer horizontal tails and minimizing their impact on the inner horizontal tails. This craft does not have the engine but does have all other equipment. The shaft and speed screw are intact. The engine manifold is an ingenious design and allows for easy access and maintenance. The engine was originally a Mazada Rotax engine but I understand any rotary engine should work. It is also configured with slight modification to run using an outboard motor freeing up the interior space. It looks spectacular on the water and is an absolute show stopper. A video of the boat is shown on You Tube and Vimeo.com /46361011 This boat is an incredibly rare find and will make a good project boat with guaranteed spectacular results. Feel free to contact me for any questions you might have.Based on the significant interest and number of questions asked, I have included additional photos of the engine compartment. The canopy removes easily and allows a rather large access opening to install the engine. Trailer: This Klem does not include a trailer but can easily fit on any small trailer with the bunkers turned flat side up. I have fabricated a dolly that the craft sits on so I can roll it around in my garage. It sets up high enough to allow the craft to be rolled on a flat bed trailer as well. The Klem is housed in my garage and was only taken outside for the pictures.
