The fiberglass crew worked off and on in June and August and the deck was repaired and sealed. The stainless steel (SS) stanchion rails had previously been removed by the fiberglass crew in order to sand and prepare the toe rails for varnishing. (The SS stanchion rails are still off. The rear teak stanchion rail is still off).July 2018: I hired a father/son team to remove the destroyed main sail, the destroyed mizzen sail, the stack pack lines; the stay sail furler and the main boom. (The main and mizzen sails are stowed in the V Berth as the hardware (boxcars) will be needed for new sails).A new bimini cover I had custom made by a local gentleman in 2016 had been removed by the fiberglass crew when Hurricane Harvey was upgraded from a category one to a three, then a category four. The same gentleman made a new mizzen sail, a new mizzen stack pack and a new mainsail stack pack. (Stack Packs destroyed). In August 2018, I reinstalled/attached the bimini cover and the port and aft screens. The starboard screens were reinstalled September 2019.NOTE: Wind Song had been ready to paint, having been meticulously masked with tape and paper when the storm was approaching. There was not enough time to remove the new mizzen sail and new mizzen sail stack pack nor the main sail and new main sail stack pack. The aforementioned were destroyed in the storm. (The main sail and the mizzen sail are both currently stowed on board in the V Berth. The Alado Roller Furler and Stay sail furler were damaged and are both currently on the dock starboard. The two wind generators on the mizzen were destroyed. The two solar panels mounted on the Fore Spar davits were destroyed.Davits remains removed and gifted.A new forward wooden hatch cover needs to be made as the original blew off in the storm. (New materials on board). The day of evacuation, Wind Song was hauled out at the Aransas Marine Ways, Inc. shipyard, set on blocks and remained in the sling. She rode out the storm in the sling. During the storm Wind Song and the lift moved across the concrete and struck another barge on "the hard". Wind Song rubbed on her forward portside and caused rub rail, toe rail and minimal surface hull damage in the "rubbed" area. The forward portside galley porthole glass was shattered at impact and the aft portside V Berth porthole glass also needs to be replaced as isnow cracked as a result of the impact. (New glass stowed onboard)January 2019: a gentleman friendwith expert boat building/electrical knowledge/repair experience had advised me that he was planning on personally refitting/repairing the following "TO DO" listautumn/winter 2019.In January and February 2019 he had ordered the supplies. New supplies stowed on board.
August 23rd 2019:Due to unforeseen circumstances, I was personally informed by the aforementioned gentleman that I now need to hire someone else to do the work.I am on a restricted income. I stated that I simply cannot afford to pay anyone else.
This latest occurrence was not anticipated. I personally cannot do the repairs.
Wind Song is a lovely vessel and needs a new, capable owner who can either do the work or have it performed by another.
"TO DO" list, not only the damages caused by Hurricane Harvey, but he was also going to:Install the new stateroom and salon reverse cycle air ducting (new supplies on board).Install new electrical and 12 volt lines/fuses, etc., (stowed on board) as Wind Song is now limited to shore power until the new electrical wires, fuses, etc., are installed as he removed thepre-existing wires, fuses, etc.
Repair the forward portside toe rail and hull scrapesReplace the three portside porthole glass
Replace the companionway glassReplace the wooden foredeck hatch cover (new materials on board)Repair the wooden main boomRemove the Paragon transmission and have it rebuiltRepair miscellaneous items as needed.
