The Homelite 55 HP 4 Cycle outboard motor was introduced in 1961. Based on the Fageol outboard motor developed by Lou Fageol which itself was a derivative of the 44 cu. in. Crosley automobile engine, the Homelite 55 HP motor was much more successful than these previous ventures and was produced up to 1972. The motor was styled by Lippincott & Margulies, Inc. of New York. In 1966, Textron, Inc. sold the production rights of the Homelite 55 HP outboard to Richard Fisher of Boston Whaler Boats in 1966. The company, Fisher-Pierce, sold the motors first as he Homelite 55 HP and then as the Bearcat 55 HP.

Additional Information:
This boat and motor are true classics - beautiful and well-built and incredibly rare in this condition. Except for the new gel coat, which was also professionally done, I restored this boat personally and the restoration is meticulous. New gauges (speedo and tach), new floor and carpet, new upholstery from Marine grade vinyl. The boats wiring harness has been completely restored and upgraded. I also installed new stainless steel fasteners where appropriate and reinforced the cleats and deck hardware with aluminum backing plates. I also installed a new vinyl rub rail to finish off the hull restore.
I constructed and upholstered a rear bulkhead to hide the gas tank and battery clutter. In this bulkhead I installed marine grade stereo speakers for the stereo system. The stereo system is a Fusion MS-RA200, 2-zone, marine stereo. It has usb and aux connection to make it easy to play mp3s directly from a usb flash drive or from a smart phone, iPad, or other computer.
The motor is really special. The 4-cycle, 4-cylinder Homelight motors are truly rare. I have many spare parts (too many to list) for this motor which will keep it running for years.
According to web sources the seven original astronauts and Jackie Kennedy owned similar Hydrodyne boats and this style of boats was very popular with professionally water skiers in the 1960s and 1970s.
The boat trailer , a single-axel RoadRunner, has also been restored and repainted. The tailer weight is approximately 800 lbs. This is long-tongue trailer tracks as straight as an hour and a hinge has been installed in the tongue in order to make it easy to store in any garage.
