Hooten Speedster

1926 Hooten Speedster. Original family owner. 15' long, 5' wide, 3' deep. Mahogany hull, birch steering wheel, teak decking. Completely restored in 1992.List of what is wrong:

-lots of brass that needs polishing-my brother did not know that wood needs to swell with water to seal and tried to seal with chalk.(chalk needs to be painted green over)-current engine (Johnson 30hp Lark) is from around 1950. It came with a Johnson 30HP Super Bee originally. My grandfather purchased a 60HP Johnson prototype during the 1931 Chicago Worlds fair; made transom stronger. Engine lost in fire while off boat in shop.-original windshield was plate glass and was replaced with plexiglass-heat from a recent shop fire damaged all just at the level of top of boat upwards including top of upholstery, and windshield. Some floating paper on fire fell onto deck and needs sanding and varnishList what is right:-no dry rot.-one owner family-restoration back to wood under eye of old salt wood boat restorer. Rare red lead paint on wood to preserve.-all brass intact-Gordon B Hooten boat company of Grand Rapids, MI has national champion outboard history-turns on a dime and VERY fun to drive.-newer modern trailer goes with boat-10 layers of Flagship varnish-potential to be pristine; one of a kind at almost 100 years old.
