Hickman Sea Sled Model 16

Beautiful mahogany 1932 Hickman Sea Sled, Model 16 motor boat. 16 feet long. Double cockpit. Built for speed, a classic high-performance boat with lots of years left on water under the care of the right person. The Sea Sled is an engineering marvel, its design a breakthrough in design and function. It was built by Albert Hickman who, according to Wooden Boat magazine, was one of the first men to "achieve high speeds on the water without resorting to high power;" compared to other planing boats, this particular craft runs like a sled on ice, thus its name. Before we bought the Sea Sled in 1998, it had been stored by the previous owners in a garage on a dirt floor which caused the hull planking to soften and warp. Upon taking possession of the boat in 1998, we immediately brought it to a professional, reputable boat builder who specializes in restoring high end wooden boats. He stripped the paint, secured the planking, painted the bottom with epoxy paint, varnished the sides and deck and painted the interior. We've had it on the water off and on since 1998, last used around 2010 and then stored on its trailer in the garage. The Sled was last varnished about 5 years ago. sanded enough over its lifetime that it has lost its intermediate

"V"-Groove. The joints and "V" Groove had been filled with black caulk. All components are original with the exception of the steering (the current mid-century

steering wheel was installed by the previous owners).Included in the auction is the custom-made cover and Dilly trailer which was customized for this specific boat in 1999. The trailer is not registered. The wheel bearings will need replacement which we can do upon request.If interested, pictured Mercury 25 HP four stroke motor circa 2005 is available for sale.
