Up for bid is my 1970 Greavette Sunflash with new 120hp Mercruiserand trailer. I am the third owner of this boat that, to my understanding, was built for the 1970 Canadian Sportsman Expo in Toronto, Ontario Canada. Purchased in July 2001, the boat was an untouched 'user' that was very well taken care of. I purchased it at the Antique and Classic Wooden boat show that summer in Gravenhurst, Ontario. Built in Gravenhurst, it had spent it's whole life on the fresh water lakes of Muskoka where I also kept it until 2009 when I brought it home to Virginia.
The boat was in good shape when purchased, but, I took it down to bare wood over two years and did a complete refinish with nine coats of ZSPAR's Captain's Varnish, caulking, bottom coat and boot stripe - only cosmetic refinishing was done as the hull is solid and free of dry rot. Unfortunately, I didn't get all of the water out of the block during winterization in '03 and was greeted with a cracked block when I took it out of storage in '04 resulting in replacement of the engine and riser. The work was done by K&H Engine rebuilders in Parry Sound, Ontario ($6,100+ included a pic of the invoice). Since then, the boat only hit the water three times between the summer of '04 and '09 for a total of less than 10 total hours on the new engine, therefore, the engine is still considered to be in its break-in period. After being put on the trailer in September '09, the boat was winterized, put, in storage, and has remained there since.
After walking around it for five years, I've decided it's just time to let it go. The pictures were taken this past Sunday (3/29) which was the first time the boat has been out of the garage in the last five years. If it looks dusty, that's because it is. I had a dust cover on it, but, I guess over five years, dust is inevitable. Nevertheless, I took the photos to show what it looks like 'untouched' and un-prepped for pictures.
To get it ready for the water, it would need:
- Dusting off
- New impeller
- Removing the old gas and flushing the tank
- New battery
- Launch and let swell
That's it. The boat's free of rot and is ready for water - just needs the proper re-entry after being in dry dock for 6 years. But, the engine is basically new and ready to offer a new owner years of enjoyment. The interior is the original that's in great shape. Thespeedometer is not original but it came with the boat - it has never worked and I never bothered to replace it - all other instrumentation is original and was in working order when winterized.
Trailer: Currently needs lights, but, I will have them installed prior to final sale. It has bearing buddies and the tires have 90% tread (replaced the rubber to trailer the boat home and have been in the garage since - they are not dry rotted).
Not pictured, but, also included in the sale, is the original heavy weight full length cover as well as the convertible/sedan top(I never used it but, the storage boot looks like it also needs a thorough cleaning).
If it doesn't sell in this 'dusty barn find condition', I'll look to have it properly detailed and re-list for fair market value.
Feel free to send questions . . . thanks.
Questions
is this boat still for sale...i am in toronto canada
Is the boat still available?
Hello. We purchased a cottage on lake muskoka about 4 years ago. Probably about a 15 minute boat ride from where your Sunflash was built. I have admired these boats for a while and am wondering if it is still for sale. Your price is more than fair. Please let me know. Thanks.
