1998 GRADY-WHITE 268 ISLANDER HIGH END HARD-CORE FISHING MACHINE
T-175 hp Johnson Oceanrunners powers our 268 Islander. Decked out with loads of options our 268 is a sturdy yet roomy fishing machine with strong (110-115 psi all around), good running engines, hardtop, windlass, searchlight, battery charger, and plenty of upgrades.
As an informed fisherman youre probably aware that this is a high-end fishing machine which is as feature-packed as it is durable nothing has been left out from Grady and nothing has been overlooked. She had a full detailed this past month and shows well. Shes the ultimate trailerable walkaround fishing boat but is equally fitted for diving or family fun as theres plenty of room for the entire family and loads of storage for dive gear, water sports toy and the like.

You can get around the cabin on many trailerable sportfishermen, but often you cant move about inside them. But if youre looking for a cabin with more than just elbowroom, consider our Grady-White 268 Islander.Theres 6 of stand-up headroom and enough space to walk from the galley to the enclosed head without doing the V-bunk crawl. Where did the builder find all this space? The boats SeaV2 hull is exceptionally deep with nearly 60 degrees of deadrise forwardtapering to 18 degrees at the transom. Grady-White built in a sunken floor, and the result is a real liveaboard cabin with room for standard features like a sink and hose-type shower in the head, plus a butane stove and an electric refrigerator in the galley. Domestic, yes. But the 268 is a tough-edged fishing machine too. The cockpit is loaded with offshore artillery. Toe rails, rodracks, trolling rodholders and a 104-qt. oval livewell are standard, as is a 186-qt. insulated fishbox. All boxes drain overboard through four scuppers aft, which is two more than usual.
With her twin 175-hp Johnson Oceanrunner outboards, the 268 topped out at 45.6 mph although it will run several mph faster without the optional hardtop. Fuel economy is super for a big, 4,600+ pound hull. Best cruise is at 3,500 RPM: 1.89 mpg running at 28.7 mph. At that speed, hot spot-hopping range is 303 nautical miles with 203 gallon of fuel (71 gallon axillary tank) . The fuel efficiency curve is broad, too, with 1.87 mpg at 4,000 rpm (34.9 mph) and 1.73 mpg at 4,500 rpm (37.8 mph). The handling of this deep-V is superior to some others in the LOA range. This hull, for instance, doesnt flop from one side to the other on slight turns. Hydraulic tabs are standard, but you dont need them to level the boat or to improve planing. The built-in engine bracket/swim platform puts the motors 26 abaft the edge of the hull surface, so you get the sea-handling advantages of a longer boat without a lot of added weight.
Hull layup is stout with two layers of 1.5-oz. mat backed with three layers of 2415 Fabmat. The stringers are plywood encased in 2415, tabbed to the bottom and glassed to the inner liner. All voids are filled with closed-cell polyurethane foam to add stiffness, cut noise, and provide floatation. The fiberglass decks are cored with marine plywood, and plywood backing runs the length of the gunwales. All wood pieces are dovetailed as well as bonded with glass.
Detail? One really nice touch is the finished interior on all compartment hatches. Gelcoat keeps things clean and prevents mildew.
We also like the seating arrangement at the helm. A dual seat replaces the swiveling companion type. Its a cozy fit for two passengers who want to chat with the skipper. But if conditions get bumpy and your guests want to stand up for a more comfortable ride, just fold it up and out of the way.
If youre looking for a hard-core fishing machine that allows room to roam both inside and outside the cabin, take a walk around our Grady-White Islander 268.

We have some of the best rates for RORO-shipping to Australia in the U.S. and we serve the ports of Brisbane, Adelaide, Port Kembla, Fremantle, and Melbourne. Whether you are a repeat customer or a first-time buyer, heres a few tips and reminders about buying, shipping, and importing boats and yachts to Australia from the U.S.
Finding the right boat.Buying a boat from another country often means dealing with people that you never met or dealt with in the past. Theres tons of free classified ads and Craigs list-type re-advertisers on the internet with deals just too good to be true. If it sounds too good, then, youd guessed it, it probably is a scam.
Do your research. Be realistic. Partner up with a Pro (like us).
We suggest you deal with us. Each week we get shipping, export, and certification inquiries from some of the countrys well respected marine dealers. We work in close cooperation with country-wide brand name retailers such as Marinemax and with the brand stores of Regal, Chaparral, Monterey, Bayliner, Larson just to mention a few.
We are a fully licensed Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier by the Federal Maritime Commission and as such we operate our own in-house shipping company. We have exclusive contracts with some of the largest steamship companies in the world. As one of the rather few NVOCCs we have the authority to buy and resell space on ocean-going cargo ships and issue our own bills of lading. What does this mean for you? As an individual? Well, by contacting us directly you are likely to save considerable time and money by dealing directly with the contract holder (as opposed to a string of middlemen).
Buying a boat directly from us or through our brokerage divisionBoats International, Inc. is our own in-house discount boat dealership. We buy bulk trade-ins from the big retailers but we also buy from banks and individuals as well. For the past 20+ years our focus have been to absorb distressed inventory and floor-plan boats from cash-strapped dealers and resell these locally and overseas. As we now are completing our store expansion project (September, 2011) we will be able to take on even more inventory then in the past and also have space over to showcase brokerage and consignment boats.
Most of our international buyers rely on our reputation and expertise as a key player on the U.S. domestic and international boat market and they seek our help to source the boat(s) that they seek. If we do not have what they seek in stock well be sure to find it through our network of dealers and banks for the right money.
Whether your buying a stock boat from us or one from another dealer we are well equipped to assist you with every step from inspection to final delivery of your boat or yacht to Australia. For example we can help you or your client with:
Finding a Boat or Yachtthat meets (or exceeds) your requirements in terms of condition, equipment, and of course price

Survey & Physical Inspection(we have a longstanding partnership with a number of accredited marine surveyors, mechanics, and experts in most regions of the country)
Closing the Dealwe often act as intermediary for international buyers as most of our overseas clients prefer only to work with one turn-key partner
Pre-shipping Logisticsonce the deal is done and the boat paid for we assist in coordinating haul-outs, marina loadings, boat ramp pickups and inland U.S. land transport/trucking through our in-house logistics company Boatlogistic.com, Inc.

ISPM-15 No Worries Mate We Fumigate All Wooden Cradles & Provide Proof of FumigationInternational Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and stamped or branded,[1] with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the wheat stamp. Products exempt from the ISPM 15 are made from alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).Customs Broker Fees & Destination Charges in AustraliaTheres tons of websites out there claiming to be the know-it-all for import questions concerning boats & yachts to Australia. Fortunately, we are not one of them. While we can recommend quite a few competent companies in Australia it is ultimately up to you to pick a customs partner in your home port. As is true for all facets of our business we believe that there are no shortcuts to sustained success in business (or life for that matter). That said we recommend that you seek the advice of an Australian Customs Broker who is licensed by the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc CBFCA-Australia Website to inquire about recent legal and import changes pertaining to your planned import.
