1980 Glastron Carlson Scimitar (CXT-23) . . . Classic Glass!
As a long-time performance boat aficionado recently stated in an online post . . .
They're still tryin to come up with a boat that looks cooler'n a Scimitar ..."
Its a great quote by a seasoned boating veteran, and it is perfectly true! While at the dock on my most recent trip out on the Colorado River five weeks ago, a commercial rafting-pontoon boat returned from Hoover Dam with a boatload of people. After docking at the adjacent dock, about ten of them stood on the dock taking photos and videos of this boat! When a nice-looking Hallet 255 pulled up, hardly anyone noticed. Even the owner of the Hallet paused to admire my Scimitar!
Inspired by a sketch that performance-boat guru Art Carlsons son made, the Scimitar was designed to resemble a water-borne Corvette, complete with its long, curving nose, and see-thru T-Tops. Art saw his sons original sketch, and immediately set out to design and build it. That was the birth of the Scimitar, and more than 35 years later, theres still nothing on the water like it!
* I have the boat listed elsewhere, thus, it is subject to sale through other sources.
About this Boat:
It took me three years to find this one, after passing on a few that were either total restoration projects with missing key parts, or completely restored versions with astronomically-high price tags. This boat was in, and is still in, very good semi-original condition. Modifications include a more modern paint scheme, but with the original Emerald Mist metal flake still running along the centerline of the boat. The interior upholstery also has been changed, with additional panels added. Thru-hull exhaust pipes were added, as well.
I know some aspects of the history of this boat, as given to me by the previous owner, which I can share further with serious inquiries. I have owned the boat for about two years, and unfortunately, I just dont have enough free time to enjoy it as much as Id like. In fact, I have only put about 6 hours on the boat since I purchased it. I am apparently the fourth owner of this boat, which has always been on the west coast. The previous owner stated that he was told the boat had always been stored inside (and it still is with me). I believe this to be true based on its condition - the floor and transom are solid. When I acquired the boat, I had the engine checked, the carb replaced, the water pump and seals replaced on the lower unit, and a few other things. The engine had been previously overhauled at some time, but my marine mechanic couldnt determine how long ago. I also had a dual battery system installed, with a switch. I noticed the last time I had it out that the trim gauge was not working. There is a new Kenwood Bluetooth Marine Stereo / USB player installed also, but the speakers are due to be replaced. All four tires on the trailer were also replaced, and have only a few hundred miles on them, including the short trip to the Colorado River about five weeks ago.
There are some minor surface blemishes in the paint and gel coat which are visible when standing very close, but overall, this is a really nice example of this rare boat model. It wouldnt take much to make this boat perfect. There have been a few people in the past who have made nice engine upgrades to Scimitars, so this boat is a great candidate for that, as well. It is an absolute blast to drive, and people literally line up on the dock to take videos and photos when I launch. So, expect some attention if you purchase this one - even at the gas station! I have links to video clips of my recent outing on the Colorado River five weeks ago, which show the boat in action (from the drivers seat).
It seats five adults comfortably, with two front bucket seats, and a three-person bench seat behind. The upholstered engine cover makes a great sun lounge. I have some accessories that make launching by yourself super-easy, in case you want to do some solo cruising.
The boat is located in the Las Vegas area.
