1965 Dorsett 23 Jet Boat / Fire Rescue boat. Very rare boat, possibly one of a kind! Dorsett never listed a 23 boat in their 1965 catalog, the longest being a 21 Farallon. But from what Ive found on the internet, Dorsett started or bought an industrial boat division in 1965 and were making custom working boats. This 23 Jacuzzi driven fire rescue boat may be one of the first. Complete with a bow mounted water cannon, this boat was used on the Oregon coast for rescue and for fighting fires. In addition to the water cannon (I've seen these listed for $2500 and up!), it has six other water/hose outlets, all powered by the Jacuzzi jet pump (the inboard big block Ford V8 engine is no longer with the boat and a new engine would be needed). There is extensive plumbing throughout the boat, including galvanized steel, brass and mild steel fittings. There are also dual fuel tanks of probably 40 gallons each or more. The steering console is intact but most of the gauges will need to be replaced. TheJacuzzi jet pump (Fig No SF 12HJA J3, Unit No WRC 333) condition is unknown but it will certainly need an overhaul after 55 years. The driveshaft that goes from the engine flywheel to the jet pump is included. The fiberglass hull is basically sound but there are scratches, dings, small cracks and various wear typical of a 50 plus year old working boat. But I would imagine that a replacement fire fighting boat of this size would run 75 to 100k in todays market. Or, remove the fire fighting gear and build a one of a kind 23 cuddy cabin cruiser that would turn heads wherever you go. The boat will need extensive restoration and most of the plywood deck and plywood interior sides are rotted as is the engine cover. The 10' stringers look very solid and shouldn't need any work. The steel trailer is rusty and beat up but will certainly functional to move the boat (I recently towed the boat 75 miles). I have a clear title for the boat but NO title for the trailer. A temporary permit for the trailer is around $40 for 3 or 4 days.
