Accommodations
The original 26-foot Elco Cruiser was first presented to the public early in 1925, and since then has had the enthusiastic recommendation of nearly two hundred owners. A greatly augmented equipment list and a few modifications which were found desirable, make the present model a complete small cruising boat.
Gatsby, is a replica of the Weston Farmer designed 1925 wooden Elco 26' Classic Cruiser. She was brought back in a modern fiberglass design in 2001 by master craftsmen at Classic Boats Inc., Autin, Arkansas. Although Gatsby was built as a replica of the original Elco 26, there are some differences and upgrades. Her hull consists of three alternating layers of sealed and glued 1/4" Port Orford red cedar, and epoxy, which creates a virtually indestructible structure. Modern diesel power, electronic navigation, radar, private head and sanitary disposal system, pressure fresh water, refrigerator, air conditioning (while at dock), compact galley, and a convertible queen sized berth round out the amenities nicely. The fully enclosed pilot house/salon with settee, and hard covered cockpit offer a wonderful all-year-round cruising environment. Below desk and all the way forward is a v-berth with comfortable cushions covered with stain resistant Sunbrella. There is ample storage under the v-berth, sink, and refrigerator. The galley boasts and alcohol stove, sink with pressurized water, 110v/12v refrigerator, dish and utensils storage, and food preparation area. Across from the galley on the starboard side is the head with stainless steel sink, and electric automatic flush Raritan Marine Elegance head and Purisan automatic treatment system. It meets and exceeds all Coast Guard requirements for safe overboard discharge in most U.S. harbors. Ample storage lockers and side storage in the cockpit round out Gatsby's features. Bronze stanchions in the rear support a bronze custom made davit system for that dinghy or kayak. All of the wheel house windows have pull down shades, and there are canvas covers for the windshield area, and a set of canvas privacy covers for the cockpit area.
The classic Elco 26' design and years of service as a day boat, fishing boat, yacht tender, foreign service Naval Vessel, coastwise cruising boat, and shallow water bay cruiser have shown the the fundamental idea and design of this smallest practical cruiser is correct.
But the plain truth is that she turns heads. Tug boat captains step out of the wheelhouse to wave, and talk. Sailers, fisherman, and commercial captains, always pause to look and reflect when she comes around the bend. She is the link to another time. Come experience the pleasure and comfort of seeing the world from Gatsby.
Galley
Stainless Steel sink, with pressurized water, overhead wine glass rack, formica counter tops with storage for plates. Two burner alcohol stove and lots of under counter storage. AC/DC refrigerator installed new in 2015. Storage above and below the fridge.
Head
Raritan Purasan sewage treatment system. Marine Elegance power toilet with grinder and pumped discharge. Gone are the days of emptying black water tanks. This system is so efficient that the treated sewage may be discharged directly overboard with the Coast Guardss approval. Not only is this extremely usable for the ower, it is quite gentle with nature allowing you to operate without polluting the water. Stainless steel pressure water sink, mirror, and a storage area are available in the head.
Wheelhouse and Salon
Edson stainless steel wheel and cable drive system and stylish Sunbrella covered cushions are on the Port side, with lots of storage underneath. Stylish accordion shades are installed on all of the salon's operable windows to keep out the sunshine or provide privacy at anchor.
Electronics
Garmin GPS Map 545s, Faruno radar, depth, Garmin engine control panel, stereo, VHF radio with remote handset, standby VHF radio, and compass are all in the wheelhouse.
Electrical
Blue Seas AC/DC panel with voltage and ammeter controls electrical loads with, 12 DC circuits and 6 AC circuits. A/C is handled by a 9,000 BTU Marine Aire air conditioning system with digital programmable control system. Mermaid dehumidification system is permanently installed under a recently added utility cabinet in the salon. It is plumbed to discharge condensate water overboard. All interior and navigation lights have been changed to low current high output LED lamps. The high power 3,5000 watt inverter system is wired into the breaker panel.
Deck
Forward is the anchor locker complete with anchor and 100' of rode and anchor line. Directly behind this is the stainless steel Samson Post which is structurally attached. Stainless steel stanchions line both sides of the forward deck. The rear cockpit's roof is an extension of the main fiberglass roof. Place strategically on the roof are stainless steel handrails making movement around the boat safe. The support stanchions for the roof at the rear of the cockpit are made of bronze, and attached is a functioning bronze davit system capable of supporting a substantial dinghy Aft and attached to the stern of the boat is a teak swim platform for those times when swimming or dangling your feet in the water is the order of the day.
Additional
There are bronze port lights, and new carpet in the wheelhouse/salon. Included are Sunbrella forrest green covers for all of the wheelhouse windows and the rear cockpit area. These covers provide privacy when at anchor, and for showering in the rear cockpit with the hand shower head. The bow thruster provides agility and maneuverability in close quarters and for docking. Gatsby has been in charter service for the past two years. There is a website that can go along with her. She is set up to work under the OUPV Coast Guard rules. Additional photos and May 2015 survey available upon request. The boat was out of the water on its trailer at Cove Harbor in Rockport TX, when hurricane Harvey made landfall. She was not harmed in any way, even though boats all around her were damaged. Please contact me for a showing or additional information. Thank you!
