Elco Express 40

This vessel was built by the Electric Launch Co. of Bayonne NJ. This boat was considered the best of the best inEast Coast boats and it still is. Elco's are a rare breed on the West Coast. JFK's PT 109 was an Elco. This boat has the PT boat hull config.

The boat has a double planked hull and has beautiful lines. The interior is unique and not seen on newer boats. the salon is approx. 160 sq. ft. the midship has a built in shower and full head and wash basin and mirror, beautiful mahoganyvanity and a clothes closet around 8 ft. in length. All of the interior areas are mahoganyand bright work is white enamel. the bow compartment has 2 bunk beds, a head, wash basin and storage. The back deck sets over the engine rooms and has a full Delta Canvas. The boat was re-wired in 1989 and was well done. The job included am[ Newmar off shore A/C D/C control panel], a pro mariner 60/40 batt. charger. all of the system works well.

Now for the "bad" in March of this year we discovered some bad wood under the main head . The boat was in dire straights and we almost sank her. There was some collateral damage. The engine room was under water. The starboard engine was fresh and had never run, it will have to be torn down and most likely have to replace the bearings and hone the cyl. The port engine was already torn down the valves had been groundbut we had not pulled theblock for overhaul. As for the hull, it is bad condition and along with the transomneeds to be replaced. This is a wood boat lovers restoration delight. This boat has been our home for 40 years and is a heartbreak to sell. Because of age and health we have no choice. We hope that she will go to a good home who will love her like we do. She is a classic beauty and to our knowledge there is only one other on the west coast.
