M/V Ursa Major
A 50 Monk Trawler
The Ursa Major lying at Catalina Island
This custom-built Ed Monk Sr. design was built at the West Coast Marine Works on Whidbey Island in
1965. They mostly built fishing vessels and the Ursa Major is built like a work boat with 1-1/4" Port
Orford cedar planks on steamed oak frames held by silicon bronze fasteners. The main deck is teak. The
interior has fine clear mahogany joinery throughout. She has been "wooded" , sanded to bare wood and
all fasteners checked. The hull is very fair. You couldn't build a boat like this today.
This fine vessel spent much of her life in the waters of Alaska where she was operated as a custom
fishing charter for week-long tours. As you would expect, the accommodations and equipment list are
extensive. She has three staterooms, two heads, a large separate shower, a great galley, a comfortable
salon, and a large and functional engine room. She makes a fine live-aboard.
She has been well maintained and is ready to go. We've cruised her from San Diego to the Canadian
Gulf Islands. She is currently moored at Moss Landing Harbor, slip B-152, in Monterey Bay, California.

evidence of collisions or hard groundings on the bottom. Vessel is loaded
with extras, a rarity.
This inspection as far as can be ascertained without sea trials and
operation of all equipment, and without removal of through-hull fittings. To
the best of my knowledge and belief, the statements of facts in this report
are true and correct.
