1997 custom built gentleman's runabout R&R with only 44 hours on the 26G Westerbeke inboard with fresh water internal cooling. Just had a full refresh with bildge pump and depth sounder fitted. This boat is built to exact measurements by a boat builder in New York from the Hacker Zimmer Lorraine design by John L Hacker for Motor Boating, which were tweeked by Nelson Zimmer a designer who worked for Hacker. Described as a wonderful little speedster for fast comfortable easy going. Lorraine was the subject of a how to build article in the July 1922 MotorBoating Magazine. John L Hacker patterned her off of another boat called the Ugly Duckling which was known for speed and reliability. She was to be built to very strict scantlings and powered by a Pierce-Budd 25 hp three cylinder two cycle engine which would push her up to just under 30 mph.
Nelson Zimmer, who was associated with Mr. Hacker after the second world war drew up the current plans according to the masters design. He put in patterns for all of the bronze parts that are necessary for the steering and drive train. He also recommended a modern at the time Westerbeke 26g engine to power her. She is a sweet little boat and Nelson Zimmer warns that the builder should not deviate from the design, scantlings or build her with another method like cold molded construction. This boat is built according to the design exactly. Just recently the boat has been fully refreshed, several coats of cetol marine coating and the engine has been fully serviced with an invoice for $900 to show. It comes with build photos, original letter to the builder from Wooden Boat magazine who provided the plans, engine manuals and sits on a custom trailer.
So if you are of the mindset that you might want an elegant 2 seater runabout with the distinction of being designed by the speed boat master himself this is the boat for you. Would grace any lake or river. I am only selling as my family has recently grown and would be interested in trades for a larger boat or pontoon boat.
