The Vessel Phoenix - Commercial 65' Pilot Boat Built by Colberg Boat Works

ItemDescription:The vessel Phoenix, 65' Commercial Pilot Boat, built by Colberg Boat Works, Stockton, CA.

The Phoenix was built in 1967, and most of her history is unknown/undocumented. Her last use was as a training vessel for a high-school maritime program, which ceased operations in 2007. The vessel has been dormant, berthed at a fresh-water slip, since that time. Vessel is located near Sacramento, CA 95832.

The vessel is being sold as-is/where-is. Due to the batteries being dead, and unknown conditions regarding overall completeness of systems and controls, the engines cannot be started at this time.

A Visual Inspection and Appraisal for Underwriting Purposes Only was performed by a certified marine surveyor in March 2014, and will be made available to prospective bidders by request.

The following comments are taken from inspection report:

"PHOENIX" is a well-designed and constructed commercial pilot boat. She is of welded 3/16" side and 1/4" bottom steel. She has 1/4" x 2" x 2 1/2" angled horizontal frames on 20" centers and 1/4" x 2" x 6" T-bar vertical frames on 48" centers. She has a raked bow stem, square stem, hard chines and a semi-vee hull. There are five watertight compartments consisting of a bow compartment, forward galley area, engine room, and crew's berthing and aft lazarette.

A thorough inspection of the hull and superstructure, while afloat, revealed no evidence of structural failure or wastage in areas where visible and accessible. No removals were made to uncover areas ordinarily concealed, and no intrusive or destructive testing was undertaken. The deck has surface rust at various areas.

The wheelhouse has been replaced. The boat has been completely stripped inside with new electrical wiring and equipment not installed. All of the electronics were found in a storage box in the school warehouse.

The main engines were not operated due to dead batteries. They were found clean and well maintained without obvious evidence of fuel, oil or water leaks. The new generators were not tested. The starboard generator had a fuel problem. The port generator is installed but not hooked up.

The vessel's plans were approved by the U.S. Coast Guard to carry passengers for hire.

The previous owner was following these plans in order to get a Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection.

This vessel, in its present condition, is worth approximately $150,000. If the vessel were to obtain the U.S. Coast Guard Certificate, its worth would increase to $300,000.00.
