USCG documented and currently berthed in Key West at Oceans Edge Resort. She has twin Volvo TAMD61A diesel engines and a Westerbeke generator. The port engine has approx. 2164 hrs.and the starboard shows 2204 hrs. (subject to change aswe continue to use the boat), the generator is at 662 hrs. In the last three months we installed new impellers on both engines and had the heat exchangers professionally rebuilt.
There are two central A/C systems and plenty of large opening windows. The forward head is manually operated with a fresh water flush and the aft head has a full size separate shower, nice size vanity, medicine cabinet, and a brand new electric toilet. The toilet can either be fresh water or salt water flushed (two way selector in head). There is a Raritan waste treatment system onboard but honestly I have never tested it and the previous owners were full time live-aboards and never used it either because dock pumpouts were included with slip fees ( they are where I am as well). Everything is hooked up and I replaced head hoses when I installed the electric head aft but according to the literature the holding tank has to reach a certain level to activate the Raritan and I keep it pretty empty.
The main cabin is - huge for a 40 ft boat. There is more room than most fifty footers provide. We have two leather recliners on the starboard side and an L-shaped couch on the port side. There is ample counter space and large storage cabinets in both sidewalls. Overhead lighting has separate AC and DC bulbs throughout the boat. The main cabin also has a 32 HDTV, DVD player, and stereo.
Moving forward down 3 steps the galley is to port and the dinette which comfortably seats six and converts to a Queen size bed is to starboard. The galley has electric cooktop, microwave oven, and a full size refrigerator/freezer. Engine room access is provided through a door behind the galley stairs. The main cabin floor also has four lift out panels for complete engine room access.
Moving forward from the galley a large hanging/storage closet is located to port and the forward head and vanity is located to starboard. Further ahead the forward cabin has a twin bunk upper and a twin plus size lower bunk to port. The starboard side has more counter space and pullout storage drawers.
The owners cabin is three steps down aft of the main living area and there is a hanging locker to the right (port side of boat) going down the steps. The owners cabin suite has a full queen size bed with memory foam mattress center, built in nightstands to either side with pull out drawers. There are full length countertops with ample drawers for clothes storage outboard of nightstands and on port and starboard sides. Looking forward from the bed there is a walk-in closet on the starboard side of the boat and door to the aft head on the port side. The walkway on either side of the bed is comfortably wideand there is no crowded or crammed in feeling as many boats have.
In the original brochure she was advertised as the cruiser for discriminating yachtsmen. The teak joinery and teak parquet floors throughout are more modern and stylish than your typical Taiwan Trawler of the period. She was a high end yacht when built and the cabinetry fit and finish along with the smooth exterior lines look more European or Scandinavian than something out of the Chung Hua shipyards.
Outside the sundeck area is very large with a wetbar sink and counter space to the left (port) of the double entry doors. Below the sink is an icemaker (not sure if it works gets cold after a period of time but not sure its cold enough so I have the water shut off) to the right are two large undercounter storage cabinets, one of which would be an ideal location for a washer/dryer unit but we simplyuse it for storage. There is a center mounted ladder to the swim platform on the stern and the swim platform has a separate swim ladder and dingy brackets. The sundeck has a hard cover, large tempered glass sliding windows port and starboard and Plexiglas or lexan doors to the side decks moving forward.
The side decks are wide and easy to navigate without having to squeeze sideways between the superstructure and the stainless handrails. The forward deck is again very large and could easily accommodate lounge chairs, bicycles, etc or just used for sunning.
Going up the center steps, the flybridge is approx. ten feet long and eleven feet wide with full length bench seating to starboard and"L" shaped seatingalong the port and aft sides. There isalso a fixedcocktail table on the port side. There are two swiveling helm chairs, one centerconsole and the other starboard. Full storage compartments under the side bench seating and forward below the helm station. The radar arch supports blue cockpit lighting and the VHF antenna.
The bottom paint and zincs are less than 6 months old, we have a spare set of props, and the last survey was May 2018. The boat is equipped with electric anchor windlass, Bennett trim tabs with helm station indicators, autopilot, VHF, and Garmin GPS. With 200 gallon water tanks and 400 gallons of fuel it has the range for extended cruising.
The radar arch, swim platform & sundeck top were all installed in 2018. The boat handles perfectly, there is no slop in the steering and response to throttle and steering controls is immediate and effective at all speeds. We routinely back into our slip with no issues generally just using differential throttle settings at idle. The ride is dry and very comfortable due to the wide beam:

We have owned Elusive and have made numerous upgrades over the last 15 months. I have owned a Present 42, a Cruisers 3750, a large Carver and numerous other sail and power boats and can honestly say our Aquarius is the most comfortable and livable boat we have ever owned. It would be perfect as a live-a-board boat or to do the great loop. We bought her specifically to do the loop but unfortunately family matters have that delayed indefinitely.
The boat is not perfect, in addition to the icemaker mentioned above, the hot water heater needs to be replaced as it has started popping the circuit breaker (might just be scale buildupbut they are so cheap I would just replace since its an older unit). There is some discolorization on the wood below some of the window frames but I suspect this is from condensation on a 1988 boat as we have seen absolutely no leaks in the year plus we have had her. Although we have occasionally been caught in a quick squall forgetting we had the windows open one of the nicest things about this yacht is the large opening windows plenty of natural light and ventilation. The larger windows all have screens as do the hatches but there are a couple of them missing on the small ports. There are mini blinds on all salon windows.
The boat had superficial damage during hurricane Irma, no structural damage to the hull, no damage to the running gear, and no water was taken inside. The swim platform, the aft deck hardtop, and the Bimini were all damaged during Irm. All have been replaced except for the Bimini. The hull could use a good wax. The interior hasbeen updated except for the forward berthcushions.

With its wide beam, shallow draft, reliable low time engines, and great handling this would be the perfect boat for the Great Loop comfortably supportingand one or two couplesfull time and still able toaccommodateoccasional guests. She would be a great Live A Board anywhere. If its in your dreams, you should take a look.
