2011 MERIDIAN 441 SEDAN- T-480 HP CUMMINS ZEUS POD DRIVES LOADED
We just traded in this 2011 2-stateroom hard-top 47-foot yacht the completely redesigned Meridan 441 Sedan. Equipped with ALL the expensive extras such as the $91,000.00 upgrade to a pair Cummins 480 hp diesels with ZEUS joystick pod drives, hard top, 4x zone air conditioning including bridge AC, Bridge BBQ, Radar, premium RAYMARINE navigation, engine room camera, back-up camera, Smartcraft Vesselview, Wireless Remote-Control Davits dinghy crane, washer/dryer, convection oven and more. Recently serviced at authorized dealer ready for you.
Seen from the outside, the 2011 Meridian 411 is more aggressive-looking than some of the other Meridian models. Yet, it has a certain elegance and sophistication, thanks in large part to the stylishly designed two-tier windows. These also increase visibility and the amount of natural light on board something most passengers are sure to appreciate. Our Meridian 411s increased length (its actually beyond 47 feet when you include the integrated swim deck) makes for better proportions overall, which is something that can be problematic on smaller Flybridges.
Aboard, our Meridian 441 is more than spacious enough for you and several friends to relax in style and comfort, whether its for a night, weekend or even a couple of weeks. Imagine the view as you wake up and see the sun rise over the water, or as you enjoy your breakfast as the light of day fills the cabin.

WHAT OTHERS SAY
If I were teaching a graduate course for boat- building executives
lets call it Successful Boatbuilding 101
I wouldnt make the students buy a textbook.
Id take them for a ride on a Meridian 441 Sedan Bridge.
In a word, this new yacht is a syllabus of thoughtful design, clever construction, and realizing the satisfaction of customer needs. As you can guess, I was quite taken with the 441Ive always believed that Meridian really knew what customers wanted inside their boat, regardless of how it looked on the outside. In this case (441 Sedan), Meridian got it all right.
There was an earlier Meridian 441 but, if I understand correctly what the design boffins that accompanied me on our test were saying, they basically jacked up the VHF antenna and put an entirely new boat underneath. My notes say that this 441 Sedan Bridge has a new hull, deck, bridge, and profile. Also new windows, easier bridge access, better accommodations, more light, and more woodwork.Yep, all thats left is the antenna. /Chris Caswell Yachting Magazine 7/2008.

Its a huge storage space that could hold five stowaways
A CUBBY HOUSE?The large carpeted floor hatch as you enter the saloon from the cockpit makes you look twice. It seems too far forward for an engine room entrythats because its not. Greg Wright from Avante Marines Big Boat Centre on the Gold Coast affectionately refers to it as the cubby house. Its a huge storage space that could hold four or five stowawayspacked without care. Or, if youre in an honest trade, theres enough space for some fishing rods, several tackle boxes, snorkelling and diving gear, a beach cricket set, Frisbee and maybe a couple of inflatable kayaks with two-piece paddles. Drunken sailors might see potential for a dozen slabsmake that a bakers dozen just in case.

..ON THE BRIDGETyson Schey, an engineer for Meridian Yachts and one of the team that designed this model, told me that the focus of the 441 is livability, cruisability and function. And evidence of those accomplished goals is all around this yacht.
Inviting, spacious and large enough for a small party, the bridge sports a forward-facing port-side bench with a handrail along the dash, an L-shaped seating area aft complete with a table, cabinet storage, sink, refrigerator and an optional grill and flat-screen TV. The fully integrated nonskid mold- ed stairway complete with lighting and handrails is wide enough for safe passage to the cockpit. An optional hardtop will help keep you from cooking in the sun.
The Meridian 441 Sedan Bridge caters to the established cruising individual or couple who enjoys a smooth-riding pleasure boat over a flashy speed machine. Joystick controls make docking easy and fun, and the overall layout of the vessel is well-designed.

NEW IDEASThe 441 Sedan takes Meridians 411 model to the next level. The styling is brought over from the prior version, but there are some new ideas too.
Entering the salon through the large sliding door, the electrical/breaker panel is on the port side and at eye level. No hunching over to reach breakers near the floor; this panel is simple and encased in its own cherry wood-finished cabinet.
An Ultra-flow AC distribution system has the motor units mounted on the bridge, making the units closer to the salon and minimizing cooling loss through ducting. The air-handling registers are stylishly designed in the overhead, also allowing for improved air distribution.
The salon is fitted with port-side chairs flanking an end-table and a starboard side L-shaped settee, with a coffee-table the length of the settee. A bar with a mini-fridge and cabinet storage are on the aft starboard corner. Split pane side-windows along with the broad forward windows allow for copious amounts of exterior light to come in. Headroom is an impressive 6 feet, 5 inches or more, so unless youre the Jolly Green Giant, there should be no head-banging here.
Forward of the settee is the 4-to- 6 person dinette, up a step from the salon. To port is the mahogany-soled galley, with a Norcold 34-height refrigerator/freezer, three-burner recessed stove-top, dual sinks, microwave and under-counter cabinets and drawers. One cabinet contains a lazy Susan along with slotted storage to secure the covers from the stove and sink.
Down forward are the staterooms, a forward master and mid-section VIP. The forward has a center queen-size island bed (spring mattress, not foam), two cedar-lined hanging lockers and two portholes for light. Ample storage can be found under the bed and under the floor panels.
The full-beam VIP stateroom has a queen berth, a dresser with drawes and a vanity tray, and several elongated portholes for more outside lighting. The washer/dryer is located behind one of the cabinets here, which, if just a couple is running the yacht, is probably used infrequently. This may be a better place than taking up room on the main deck or in a hall space. Both staterooms have en suite heads, with the forward having a separate shower stall and the mid-cabin doubling as a day head via a hall door.
Several other features need to be mentioned. The integrated swim platform contains a narrow center-line trap door. This allows the electrical cable to be run from the transom locker (which also houses other connection boxes and hot/cold faucets, keeping all of them protected) and across the platform recessed beneath the trap door, thereby eliminating any tripping incidents.
Transiting forward along the sidedecks, there is sufficient nonskid built into the surface to keep your feet where they belong, under you. Unobstructed sidedecks (cleats are on the outer edge) and high, sturdy rails keep safety a high priority. The foredeck is nonskid all around and can fit large sunpads that fit around the master stateroom hatch.Anchor windlass and control buttons are in a covered recessed hatch, keeping toe stubbing to a minimum while maintaining a clean look.
Meridians goal is to target seasoned boaters those who definitely have the ability to enjoy cruising to the fullest, as opposed to racing toward the finish line. The stylish and functional Meridian 441 Sedan can take you there.
The Meridian Yachts 441 Sedan is a two head/two stateroom with plenty of gathering areas on the main deck despite the fact that it is a galley-up design.
The salon has been moved aft and features J shaped seating opposing two movable chairs and a small table. A standard hi-low teak table easily converts the area from casual dining to cocktail parties.
The main salon is an attractive gathering area that is as functional as it is attractive. With Zeus pods the engines are moved under the cockpit deck freeing up cavernous storage under this salon deck.
The galley is forward with a dinette to starboard, both elevated one step up from the salon and this design feature adds more headroom for the master stateroom below. The galley includes a full height refrigerator/freezer, cherry cabinetry, a convection microwave, double sink, Karadon solid surface countertops, a lighted corner cabinet and natural hardwood flooring.
Looking forward from the main salon the galley area is elevated and offers commanding views. An optional lower helm can be installed to the starboard side.
The galley is appointed with top level appliances, cherry cabinetry and some of the best views on board.
ACCOMMODATIONSMoving below decks, Meridian went with a full beam master stateroom with the island berth mounted athwartships. Forward is a VIP stateroom. A full sized head with separate shower is located to port, the guest head/day head is located to starboard. Both staterooms feature cherry cabinetry and designer fabrics.
The master stateroom is full beam and features more high-gloss cherry cabinetry. Amazing views can be had through the lengthy hull side windows. Notice the overhead geometry that provides standing headroom in the front of the berth.
The high-gloss cherry wood theme continues in the forward VIP stateroom, and its even accommodated in the overhead treatments. The shelves just below the opening port lights are practical as well as adding to the nautical charm. The separate shower in the master head has a curved acrylic facing and door that adds more room to the shower interior. The opening port light provides ventilation and the seat allows for showering even while underway. But the comfort level of the 441 Sedan is only part of the story. Her real appeal manifests itself once the lines are cast off. Lets start by taking a look at some of her operational features.
The cockpit is entered from a gate to the starboard side, and there are courtesy light switches right at the entry gate to illuminate the whole cockpit, as well as the stairway to the flying bridge. Meridian hot-wired these lights to the battery so they can be activated even with the batteries switched off.
The power panel is just inside the sliding glass salon entry doors, nestled into a cabinet at the aft port side of the salon. Both 12V and 120V switches are in the same panel, split side to side. The generator controls are to the right. In the center are two gauges for the water tank and holding tank levels. Turning the two ignition keys activates power to the helm, but they do not start the engines.
POD DRIVESOur boat was powered with Zeus pods which move the engines back underneath the cockpit deck. This freed up space under the salon for a massive amount of storage, as can well be imagined. With the Zeus pod drives the vessel also comes with a joystick, but without a bow thruster since it is not needed for easy docking.
Connections to the underwater exhausts are clearly visible in the corners, so those can easily be checked for leaks. Meridian did a professional job in ensuring that everything is correctly double clamped and the sharp edges of the clamps are covered to protect against harm when rubbing against them. Our test boat was equipped with an optional cable reel system for the shore cord. Pulling two pins eases removal of the steps and allows access to the forward end of the engine compartment where the fire suppression system, engine controls, the oil change system and raw water strainers are all located.
FLY BRIDGEThe flying bridge is accessed by molded-in fiberglass stairs on the starboard side. A lockable hatch keeps the flying bridge secure and also as a measure of safety should any children be visiting the upper deck. The flying bridge is well laid out with a bench seat which allows more eyes to face forward next to the helm. Also most skippers we know like company. An entertainment center is just behind. Wraparound seating surrounds a table to the aft deck.
The hardtop is optional, but Ive yet to see a 441 delivered without it. Additional options include the TV, refrigerator, and electric grill to port.
THE HELMNow lets take a look at the helm. Meridian created a stylish and functional helm for the 441 with optional twin Raymarine nav displays to either side of the digital depth gauge. Electronics installation is amazingly simple as the entire panel lifts up without the need for any tools. Analog gauges are to either side of the panel giving information for each engine.
The starboard side helm wraps around the operator creating an efficient control station that is attractive in its functionality. Note the analog gauges to the outside of the hybrid touch screens. Important toggle switches such as fuel transfer and automatic anchor windlass remove are located just below the VHF.
A host of optional features are included with the Cummins engine controls. The joystick is just to the right of the throttles with its control pad just forward. Below and to the left are the vessel view display and VHF radio, to the right are the engine start/stop buttons, and the optional remote spotlight control. Further aft is a gloss finished sub-panel for additional switches, including the emergency engine stop switches.
As pleasing as the helm layout is, its got nothing on the premium helm seat. Its fabricated from butter-soft leather and is plush padded. A raised headrest adds comfort, and wings project forward for side-to-side support. Armrests flip up, and the bolster is widened to better serve for sitting on. Controls underneath allow it to swivel, slide, raise and lower.
HANDLINGShe only presents a 12-degree bow rise upon acceleration, and once at cruise speed settled into a 5-degree bow high attitude. With pods the turning radius is limited at speed to prevent unsafe maneuvers, so the 441 has mild turning characteristics, even though she responds well to the helm. In other words, no matter how aggressive I got with the wheel, she remained comfortable throughout rolling a maximum of 12-degrees into the turns.
Shes also an exceedingly dry boat throwing spray far and low so theres minimal blow-back onto the boat. From a comfort standpoint, Meridian really nailed the windscreen as the wind was blowing across the top of my head and not into my face. The helm seat is telescoping so captains of differing heights will be able to achieve the same benefit.
DOCKINGWith the Zeus propulsion system the joystick is right next to the engine controls and moving the joystick has the boat following the movements of the joystick with exacting precision. Rotating the control will cause the 441 to rotate as well.
OBSERVATIONSThe design team at Meridian Yachts tells me that this is their best selling yacht, and I have no trouble believing that. Its not only well designed, but she handles well, and looks attractive. With two, large staterooms below and six venues 1) the stateroom, 2) dinette, 3) salon, 4) cockpit, 5) companion seat at the helm, 6) dinette on the flying bridge there is plenty of room and private spaces to make cruising with two couples pleasant, genteel and comfortable.
The sedans long overhang over the cockpit allows it to be enclosed in cruising canvas and the same can (and should) be done on the flying bridge. This extra investment makes the 441 a three-season vessel and at the same time creates more living space and a relatively small added expense.

Importing a Boat to Australia
We have some of the best rates for RORO-shipping to Australia in the U.S. and we serve the ports of Brisbane, Adelaide, Port Kembla, Fremantle, and Melbourne. Whether you are a repeat customer or a first-time buyer, heres a few tips and reminders about buying, shipping, and importing boats and yachts to Australia from the U.S.
Finding the right boat.Buying a boat from another country often means dealing with people that you never met or dealt with in the past. Theres tons of free classified ads and Craigs list-type re-advertisers on the internet with deals just too good to be true. If it sounds too good, then, youd guessed it, it probably is a scam.
Do your research. Be realistic. Partner up with a Pro (like us).
We suggest you deal with us. Each week we get shipping, export, and certification inquiries from some of the countrys well respected marine dealers. We work in close cooperation with country-wide brand name retailers such as Marinemax and with the brand stores of Regal, Chaparral, Monterey, Bayliner, Larson just to mention a few.
We are a fully licensed Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier by the Federal Maritime Commission and as such we operate our own in-house shipping company. We have exclusive contracts with some of the largest steamship companies in the world. As one of the rather few NVOCs we have the authority to buy and resell space on ocean-going cargo ships and issue our own bills of lading. What does this mean for you? As an individual? Well, by contacting us directly you are likely to save considerable time and money by dealing directly with the contract holder (as opposed to a string of middlemen).
Buying a boat directly from us or through our brokerage divisionBoats International, Inc. is our own in-house discount boat dealership. We buy bulk trade-ins from the big retailers but we also buy from banks and individuals as well. For the past 20+ years our focus have been to absorb distressed inventory and floor-plan boats from cash-strapped dealers and resell these locally and overseas. As we now are completing our store expansion project (September, 2011) we will be able to take on even more inventory then in the past and also have space over to showcase brokerage and consignment boats.
Most of our international buyers rely on our reputation and expertise as a key player on the U.S. domestic and international boat market and they seek our help to source the boat(s) that they seek. If we do not have what they seek in stock well be sure to find it through our network of dealers and banks for the right money.
Whether your buying a stock boat from us or one from another dealer we are well equipped to assist you with every step from inspection to final delivery of your boat or yacht to Australia. For example we can help you or your client with:
Finding a Boat or Yachtthat meets (or exceeds) your requirements in terms of condition, equipment, and of course price
Negotiate the Deal(including but not limited to title searches, accident reports, previous owner status, etc)
Survey & Physical Inspection(we have a longstanding partnership with a number of accredited marine surveyors, mechanics, and experts in most regions of the country)
Closing the Dealwe often act as intermediary for international buyers as most of our overseas clients prefer only to work with one turn-key partner
Pre-shipping Logisticsonce the deal is done and the boat paid for we assist in coordinating haul-outs, marina loadings, boat ramp pickups and inland U.S. land transport/trucking through our in-house logistics company Boatlogistic.com, Inc.
Pre-Export Preparation Sanitation, Fumigation, De-gassing of refrigerants.Australia has (as you probably know already) very specific and strict import restrictions for boats and vessels. The governing body is the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) which is part of the Australian Governments Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Depending on the geographical location of the boat and the required preparation of the vessel we can either prepare the boat for export to Australia while underway, or we can have it completed at our marina in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Australian Shipping Services Teamour Australian Shipping Services Team assist with Sanitize boats & yachts prior to port delivery AQIS will stop all boats that are dirty and soiled to check for insect/parasite infestations
Fumigation of boats and cradles according to AQIS-standard (Methyl Bromide 3.0 lbs / 1,000 cubic feet / 24 hrs) De-gassing of
Air-conditioning Systems (AC) Refrigeration HVAC HFC HCFC Providing HVAC Customs Certification
With our certificates our customer are NOT REQUIRED to obtain the otherwise very expensive Australian import licenses.
Trailer Import Permit AssistanceThe Australian Governments Department of Infrastructure and Transport requires that all imported boat trailers have an Import Approval. You can read more about the approval at the Departments website or you can download the .pdf-application Import a Small Road Trailer here.
Import Duties and Goods and Services Tax (GST)If youre buying a US-made boat, according to the United States-Australia Free Trade Agreement, you arent required to pay the 5% duty (as well supply the required waiver forms). You must, however pay 10% GST on all costs associated with the purchase of the the boat, ocean freight, duty, wharf charges, customs broker fees, and destination port fees..
ISPM-15 No Worries Mate We Fumigate All Wooden Cradles & Provide Proof of FumigationInternational Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and stamped or branded,[1] with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the wheat stamp. Products exempt from the ISPM 15 are made from alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).Customs Broker Fees & Destination Charges in AustraliaTheres tons of websites out there claiming to be the know-it-all for import questions concerning boats & yachts to Australia. Fortunately, we are not one of them. While we can recommend quite a few competent companies in Australia it is ultimately up to you to pick a customs partner in your home port. As is true for all facets of our business we believe that there are no shortcuts to sustained success in business (or life for that matter). That said we recommend that you seek the advice of an Australian Customs Broker who is licensed by the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc CBFCA-Australia Website to inquire about recent legal and import changes pertaining to your planned import.

As one of the rather few NVOCCs we have the authority to buy and resell space on ocean-going cargo ships and issue our own bills of lading. What does this mean for you? As an individual? Well, by contacting us directly you are likely to save considerable time and money by dealing directly with the contract holder (as opposed to a string of middlemen).
Buying a boat directly from us or through our brokerage divisionBoats International, Inc.is our own in-house discount boat dealership.

Pre-Export Preparation Sanitation, Fumigation, De-gassing of refrigerants.Australia has (as you probably know already) very specific and strict import restrictions for boats and vessels. The governing body is the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) which is part of the Australian Governments Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Depending on the geographical location of the boat and the required preparation of the vessel we can either prepare the boat for export to Australia while underway, or we can have it completed at our marina in Pompano Beach, Florida.
