Boat History:
Long story short, this boat was stolen off a boat dealer's lot when it was new and stripped in 2004; I have a copy of the police record. I acquired it a few years ago from a person who was trying to rebuild it but didn't have time anymore to complete it. When I acquired it, the engine and sterndrive were installed but missing parts or had the wrong parts. Most of the upholstery was missing and the upholstery you see was how I got it. The gauges and panel were missing. The boat was quite dirty but a lot of the dirt washed off. The trailer was what came with the boat but I know it is a little undersized for the boat.
My Restore:
All parts I purchased and installed are OEM Mercruiser, Mercury and Maxum parts. Screws and small parts that were used are all Mercury parts, stainless steel or marine grade. I'll just list some of the things I've completed.
- Complete wiring overhaul. All checked and working- Installed gauges and new panel. Wiring was installed according to diagrams and works accordingly. I made the gauge wiring harness with the correct wiring colors. It is missing the tachometer as I cannot find the right one. It is prewired for a tach. The depth gauge is just the gauge I had to fill the hole.- Installed engine wiring harness, ICM, shifter, steering oil cooler- Replaced shifter and throttle control to a newer model- Parts I replaced that are new: Battery, throttle and shift cables, distributor cap, ignitions sensor, rotor, floor hatch latch, blower vents, power steering hoses, anode plate, trim anode, ignition switch- Changed drive fluid, change power steering fluid
This is my first boat and first time working on an engine. Knowing nothing about boats or engines to start with, I think I took on more than I could handle and within my ability. I worked through manuals for most of the restore. I've done the most I can but I have to stop as I don't have time for it anymore either. There are few things I know of that are left to be done.
- The entire distributor is out and I don't know how to get it back in. I followed instructions but am still not able to. All parts are there including the clamp to hold down the distributor.- There is one open fitting on the exhaust manifold. There is usually a metal hose that goes from it to somewhere near the carburetor.- Complete tuning- Build missing upholstery including the engine cover- The propeller probably needs to be replaced.
Conclusion:
Nothing worked when I bought the boat. Now the trim works to bring the drive up and down. All the electrical works, including running lights, gauges, horn, blower, bilge pump, engine wiring, etc. The engine cranks but does not start as the distributor is not in. There is no gas or any trace gas was ever put in. The boat may have never been in water after being on the dealer's lot where it was stolen.
It is a good clean boat for someone who knows how to fix and service boats and can possibly build upholstery. For someone like that, it won't take much more financially to complete the boat. The boat is very clean as you can see from the pictures. The engine seems to be in good condition. The hull is in great condition but a bit yellowed. The graphic is a bit faded. There are some scratches and stains on the floor but nothing major. A corner piece broke off the lower part of the sterndrive where the anode plate is installed. You can see it in one of the pictures on the link to the photo gallery.
I have nothing to hide about the boat. Ask any questions you wish and I will do my best to answer them. I am selling the boat as is and what you see is what you get. You are free to come by and check it out. I still have some parts from the restore. If it is needed and I have it, I will give it to you. I will also include the Mercruiser service manuals.
I don't know what a boat in this condition is worth. I see some of this year and model boat ask for $16,500 but I know this is in working great working condition with lots of additional items.
I would like to get $8500 but definitely taking best offers.
