2007 Lund Tyee 1850 with 2007 Mercury Optimax 175 HP motor and trailer. This boat and motor were involved in a severe fatality incident in 2010 and have been stored indoors since then. The boat struck a submerged object (underwater strike) when moving at high speed on an inland lake. The motor tilted forward with great force, broke its support yoke and flipped into the seating area. Boat and motor had little use prior to the incident, in fresh water only.The hull has sustained a sizeable dent to the grounding keel, the replaceable aluminum portion near the front of the boat. The spinning propeller caused some interior damage to the boat. A rescue boat put a dent in the right rear (starboard quarter) just forward of the transom. The condition of the transom appears OK, but INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE TRANSOM IS POSSIBLE and should be expected.The 175 HP Optimax outboard engine was significantly damaged and needs MAJOR WORK. The yoke assembly has broken off, there is separation damage between the lower unit and the mid-section, and the steering and other controls were ruined. The power head of the motor may be usable. You should have access to lots of parts or an identical motor with a ruined power head.The boat trailer was parked at the time of the incident and was not damaged. The trailer, boat and motor have been stored indoors since 2010, covered with a tarp.Various other accessories were damaged or scraped during the incident.
