This is a 1987 Holiday Mansion Coastal Barracuda Houseboat. It is a PROJECT!
+ Twin V8 inboards, spacious, very capable platform, blank canvas, NO RESERVE.
- Stripped interior and plenty of little projects. The Story:
My wife and I bought "Moon River" in 2005. We enjoyed the boat for several seasons and then had kids - enjoyed the boat a little less and then had more kids. You get the idea. During the first couple of years, I had the AC and DC electrical distribution panels upgraded, I replaced the exhaust risers the swim platform supports, the head, and other maintenance projects. wise tried to catch up on maintenance items. I pulled the boat, cleaned and repainted the bottom every other winter, but I have not hauled the boat for the past 3 or 4 winters. About 6 years ago, I decided to freshen up the interior. I pulled the carpet, then the galley cabinets, then the sink, then... Before long I was staring at an empty interior and drawing up fantasy plans for new cabinets and wall paneling and all sorts of fancy things. So, I am giving up the project. The Boat:
Engines: The boat has 2 Crusader 270 inboards with V-Drives. The motors are freshwater cooled with freshwater-cooled manifolds. The last time I ran the motors (several years ago), the motors ran well but both needed carb rebuilds. I ran the motors to flush them with antifreeze for the winter. This was also the last time that I fogged the cylinders and changed the oil. The next year, the riser broke off of the starboard water intake, so I have just filled the system with antifreeze each winter since, but not run the engines. I expect the engines to run, but the fuel needs to be replaced and it had been long enough since they had been run that I intended to pull the valve covers and spray down the valves to prevent a stuck valve just in case. I never had any problem with the transmissions and did drain and fill the fluid a couple of years after we got the boat. The engine hour meter showed about 270 hours when we bought the boat. They now show about 480, but I accidentally left the ignition on for several days the first year we had the boat. I would like to have put 200 hours on the boat, but I don't think that is the case.Interior: The boat has a main salon aft that included the galley, a large bridge area up a couple of steps from the salon. This area is stripped; no carpet, cabinetry, trim, or window treatments. There is some water damage of the paneling around some of the windows and doors. One of my next steps was to pull them and reseal them. All of the glass is intact and works fine. On the port side of the bridge, there is a companionway leading down to a head with a tub/shower, a cabin with two bunks, and the anchor locker. This cabin is under the bridge and has a low ceiling. There is a new toilet (I installed it when I was stripping out the interior). There is some water damage in the sole of the cabin from a bilge pump failing. The floor seems solid, but the particle board cabinetry is swelled and the carpet is shot. The cushions in the cabin below are the original from the salon area. There is a hi-lo table that came with the boat that I will transfer with the boat.Exterior: There are plenty of areas on the topside where the fiberglass needs attention I have not found any soft spots, but I am not swearing that there are not any. There is a lot of gelcoat crazing and cracks. It was on the to do list. Most of the cushions are gone or should be. There is a cover for the flybridge. The flybridge controls worked fine the last time I had the boat out and move freely now. The flybridge gauges were hit or miss.Systems: The AC and DC electrical panels have been upgraded. I had a professional do this. It has two 30A shore power inlets. The 6.5 kW Onan genset has very low hours (about 50) but it is raw water cooled and original. I had it running the first season we had then boat and have not been able to get it running again since. The hot water heater was rusted and got thrown out with the rest of the interior (I have a new one if you are interested. I will sell for additional amount). The hydraulic steering has worked fine though I would expect that a buyer would want to bleed the system before trusting it too much. It has a lot of freshwater capacity (about 80 gallons), but the pump (comes with) needs to be reinstalled. Gauges below generally worked but the starboard temp gauge and the tach would drop out every now and then. It has an electric windlass, but I have never been able to get it to work. The AC worked fine several years ago and I have not run it since.I will be happy to share the 2005 survey if there is an easy and secure way to do it. The dings from that survey were:
Flares out of date
horn inop
port nav light inop
CO detectors missing
LPG system needed to be upgraded
Starboard engine max rpm was 3600 (this was fixed with engine tune-ups after purchase)
engine hoses in poor condition
transmission linkages are stiff
vhf antenna inop
Halon system not inspected
Cutless bearing should be replaced (this was done later)
graphics faded (I stripped the graphics later)
gelcoat crazing and cracks
SS railing bent
flybridge sprayshield broken
bridge canvas missing (I found it in a box in the cabin)
doors and windows leak
Tach cuts out intermittently and flybridge gauges have condensate
Some 12V accessories inop (much of this was fixed during the electrical upgrade)
water heater inop
rudder position indicator inop
port rudder post collar loose
hailer inop
gate valves rather than ball valves on coolant water intake
needs bottom paintAsk questions about any details. I will try to figure out how to post more pictures. The Deal:
Clear title in hand. No liens. The boat is in the water in Hollywood, Maryland (20636) at a leased slip. I lease the slip. I would be more than happy to transfer the lease of the slip, but this will be up to the owner (I don't foresee a problem.) Slip fees are very competitively priced. The marina does require that the boat be insured. The total amount must be paid within 5 business days of auction close. I will accept PayPal, cash, or certified check, but funds must clear before I sign over title. The winning bidder must either remove the boat from the slip or transfer the lease of the slip to themselves within 10 business days of auction close. If you expect to need more time, you may contact me to make other arrangements. Good luck!
