Up for sale is a 1984 Formula Thunderbird with twin small block Chevrolet 350's. This is a two owner boat with 238 hours on the engines and boat. We have owned the boat since 1985 and it has spent most of its life in Sturgeon Bay, WI fresh water. Although the boat was used in brackish water(FL Intracoastal)it was only for 1-2 years (FL Intracoastal) before returning to WI. This boat is equipped with KAAMA surface drives which need some TLC. Summer of 2006 was the last time the boat ran and one of the drives malfunctioned, of which I believe was the Port side. There was an attempt to remove the rubber boots and have both drives rebuilt but the project was never finished. Both engines (Hardin marine 350's) ran fine when last used in 2006 and have always been properly winterized by a professional service department. An upgraded straining system was added to the cooling system which makes it much easier to removed any sucked up weeds from the cooling system (beats swimming under the boat for those of you familiar with the process!)The original steel trailer was replaced in 1995 or 1996 with an all aluminum (new) trailer which is in excellent condition. However, when I pulled it out of storage to take pictures I did not test the breaks or tail lights. The boat was not trailered much. In WI it was kept on a lift during Summers which avoided any trailer use. If I were to put an estimate on trailer mileage it would be less than 5k miles. The transmissions are not matching:
Starboard side is a Caterpillar Marine Transmission. (worked fine when last used)
Port side is a Twin Disc. (worked fine when last used)The hull is in very good condition but the transom had signs of weakening according to the service technicians.I've always liked the lines and classic look of the boat along with the big rooster tails from the KAAMA drives. It was my intention to keep it for a project down the road but a few years have passed and the future does not look likely for a project like this.I have a reputable service technician who's done 90% of the work completed on the boat located less than .5 mile from where the boat is stored and has agreed to give his advice/input for any serious bidder.Clean Title.Feel free to email or call phone with question.Highest bidder above $4500 gets the boat! Good luck bidding!!
