FORMULA WRITES
Mastery of design and construction come together in the creation of Formulas all-new 31 Performance Cruiser. Exclusively designed by John Adams, at 33 feet 1 inch in length overall (31 8 less the bow platform) and with an 11-foot beam, the 31 PC presents a familiar Formula profile with a forward-swept radar arch, sleek, flowing lines, plentiful storage and expansive cockpit. The 31 provides truly enjoyable cruising for the entire crew.
The 31 PC cockpit is exceptional in detailed beauty and creative versatility. The aft cockpit, accessed through the port-side transom door, includes several Formula hallmark features. The U-shaped lounge greatly extends entertainment possibilities. Pleasant dining space is afforded when the tables are in position, and when the tables are lowered with cushions in place, the lounge becomes a large, well-protected sunning area. When not in use, the tables and filler cushions stow in their dedicated storage space in the transom trunk along with four standard fenders. The design-integrated, Corian topped wetbar serves as a convenient refreshment center and also can be equipped with a refrigerator or icemaker. Stainless steel cupholders ensure a place for everyones drink.
The 31s helm seating with dual-position command and companion seats provides a comfortable ride while sitting, standing or leaning back against the well-padded leading edge. Passengers enjoy the view and interacting with the captain from a curved lounge on the port side. The helm features a full array of custom, chrome-bezel Livorsi gauges set in burl wood-finish dash panels to easily monitor the boats systems. Panel space is available for further custom electronics.
Twin sun pads invite lounging on the foredeck, accessed by way of the center walk-thru windshield and integral molded steps. Non-skid surfaces and bow-rails provide secure footing to the flush anchor locker housing an electric anchor windlass with a polished stainless steel anchor and 200 of chain.
The cabin, accessed through a sliding, one-piece acrylic door, is spacious and inviting with up to 6 4 of headroom. The salon features a full galley, including a microwave oven and 120V/12V refrigerator with front panel and cabinet doors in deep cherry or cherry high-gloss finish. A stainless steel sink and the concealed 2-burner electric stove with safety shut-off make cooking and cleaning easy. A trash receptacle is set in the handcrafted, solid Corian countertop. To starboard, dining is a pleasant experience with the curving, Ultraleather upholstered lounge and dual-height, high-gloss solid wood tables. A Sharp 15 flatscreen LCD stereo TV/DVD is mounted for easy viewing and includes a dockside access cord for cable hook-up. Entertainment is further enhanced by the Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo with a complimentary one-year subscription to digital SiriusTM Satellite Broadcast. The aft cabin with privacy curtain, Ultraleather lounge and high-gloss wood cocktail table invites both daytime activities and nighttime rest. The head compartment features a molded fiberglass vanity with solid Corian countertop and stainless sink, shower, exhaust fan and VacuFlush unit with holding tank and dockside pump-out.
Sleeping accommodations for six include converting both the salon lounge and the aft cabin lounge to double berths. The forward double berth features drawer storage beneath and a mirrored, cedar-lined hanging locker. A frosted deck hatch with integrated screen and blind provides ventilation, and a 12,000 BTU reverse-cycle air conditioner is available.
An 18 degree deep-V deadrise makes for a smooth, solid ride offshore with sterndrive power starting with twin 300-horsepower packages by Mercury Mercruiser or Volvo. The power-plants are accessed via a powered engine hatch, revealing an orderly, logically arranged engine room designed for serviceability.
Elegance in motion, the 31 PC is optionally equipped with a polished, stainless steel windshield frame. Imron optional Flagship hull-side graphics include sun-sparked colors of Aquamarine, Bronze, Black Onyx and Sapphire Blue, all metallics, plus lustrous Silver Diamond Pearl. Standard color graphics are accent striping in Titanium, Black Onyx or Sapphire Blue. As pleasing to the eye as it is to operate, the sleek 31 Performance Cruiser reaffirms Formulas legacy of presenting the finest, most luxurious cruisers in the world.

WHAT OTHERS SAY
Completely redesigned with a clean sheet of paper, Formulas all new 31PC is expected to have many interested buyers for the 2005 boating season. And, unlike many of her competitors, the 31 PC is a large cruiser with a whopping beam of 11 feet, packed with top-of-the-line accessories and built to last for decades.
LayoutAt the stern, a roomy cockpit greets the owner and guests alike with a beam width, molded swim platform. Conveniently incorporated into the transom is a locker with ample space for fenders, lines and cables. From here you can plug your shore power in at the dock and rinse off with a hot and cold water shower to port.
The aft cockpit area presents wraparound seating which converts easily to a dining spot or a roomy sun lounge. Within easy reach is a wet bar that has a small counter top and matching sink to keep beverages at hand. A pair of cabinets below provides plenty of storage space and you can opt for a durable stainless steel fridge or ice maker.
Behind the WheelFormula offers one the finest helm stations on the water. She presents flip-up bolster seating for two, a full gamut of instrumentation, and best of all, Lavorsi Marine throttle and transmission controls.
When you want go up to the foredeck, access is secure with large steps and a steel handrail. Another nice feature is the concealed and well designed anchor locker with tackle, washdown, and windlass controls, all neatly placed under a sturdy hatch.
The CabinDown three steps through the companion way and you are welcomed into an air condition cabin with 6 foot 4 inches of headroom. An L- shaped, Ultra-leather sofa is to starboard and provides a pair of cherry wood dining tables for meal time or can be used as an additional bunk when youve got guests staying aboard.
Galley FeaturesDirectly to port is a fully equipped galley with a microwave, a flat screen TV and a large work surface. Mounted in the center is a deep sink, which is just next to a concealed, two-burner cooktop. Below the countertop is a roomy refrigerator/ freezer combo, paired with a storage cabinet and drawer bank.
Also to port, is a private head compartment that supplies plenty of room to use the vanity sink, VacuFlush toilet and shower. The head is nicely finished with quality materials and chromed fixtures.
At the rear of this cruiser is the aft cabin which has a plush, L-shaped settee and enough headroom to sit comfortably without feeling cramped. This area converts into a double berth, but with some unnecessary effort. With or without the bunk made, you can enjoy the large flat screen LCD TV while relaxing.
Completing the cabin is an island V berth with several drawers below. Although good for some, tall member of the family may have trouble sleeping in this bunk. (Boattest.com)
BOATING WORLD (June, 2005) writes:
Enter the Formula 31 PC. At first glance, it appears to be like so many other express cruisers: pleasing lines and styling that at least remind you of smaller and sportier boats. The challenge is always in the execution. Make enough room inside and the boat can look top-heavy and bloated. Maintain the sensuous curves, and wind up with a cramped interior that wont silence the little voce because there isnt enough room inside for extended trips, whether overnight or a long weekend.
The Formula has a well-proportioned look, with portholes below the sheerline and what appears to be a minimal cabin hump on the foredeck. Viewed from a distance, you might expect a small cabin thats dark and uncomfortable. But looks can be deceiving.
Ample StorageTheres a galley across from an extended settee for meals. Corian countertops, cherry cabinetry and a stainless steel sink combine for a very stylish galley that also is unusually workable even practical for a boat this size. An attractive cherry door hides the installed refer, while a Corian insert covers the two-burner range when not in use, adding extra countertop space for prep work. Overhead cabinets house the microwave oven, as well as a flat-panel LCD TV mounted flush on the face of the center door. Open the door and find storage behind the TV, into which a standard CRT television would be installed. The lounge opposite features a modular table design to feed multiple crewmembers, or stow the tables for a more open feeling when relaxing at the end of the day. More overhead cabinets for storage also house the stereo system and speakers. Even with the tables in place, the Formulas 11-foot beam makes moving around in the cabin a breeze, even with someone in the galley.
The double berth forward is people-sized, with a thick mattress for comfort. Drawers on the face of the berth provide more storage, and a curtain pulls across for privacy while allowing a more open feeling during the day. Mirrored doors open to reveal cedar-lined hanging lockers. Additional storage is under the berth platform, as well as the battery for the optional bow thruster. A U-shaped settee in the aft area quickly converts to a berth for another couple, or makes a private retreat to read or relax. An optional LCD TV can be installed here, making this area a private theater. We opened up all the hatches, pulled up all the seat cushions and opened all the cabinets looking for unfinished surfaces. Even the bilge is gelcoated white, and the only rough spot we found was a piece of glass that is laminated into a limber hole, forcing any water in the compartment to run through the hole into the main bilge.
Practical ChoicesFrom the pleasing aesthetics to the well thought out and abundant storage throughout, the Formula has the feel of a much more expensive boat. We loved the look and comfort of the interior, and there was nothing negative the voice in our head could say, as it was all so practical. Even the head allows a 6-foot-tall adult to stand and shower without stooping. And a shower curtain pulls around the head to keep the sink and door dry while still providing room to actually use the shower. Too many express cruisers give you a head with barely enough room to stand. Adding a drain and a faucet does not a washroom make; if youve gotta have a shower, it might as well be usable. The interior is also as uncavelike as possible thanks in part to three translucent hatches overhead, which let in plenty of natural light. The rich cherry woodwork was offset by the multiple taupe hues in our test boat. Three other color choices are available besides morning sand used in this boat, but all of them (sapphire, titanium and silver) use their color palette to enrich the look without condensing the feel of the space.
Outside ComfortIf your little voice is telling you that all of this interior practicality must come at the expense of usable outdoor entertainment space, stepping onto the deck will silence it in a hurry. Walking through the transom door accesses an aft U-shaped lounge that easily converts to a large sunpad with cushions that have a dedicated storage space. Dont worry about the door staying open or closed, as a friction lock keeps it in the position you want it. The swim step is large, with a trunk space for storage of fenders, sunpad cushions and the lounge tables and posts. Set up the cockpit however you like; there wont be a bunch of items rattling around underfoot. One step up is the helm area, with side-by-side seats for the captain and first mate that include bolsters for sitting or leaning. The helm itself has plenty of room for electronics and easy-to-read gauges.
Opposite on the port side is another short settee with surprise more storage under it. Our test boat had the optional small refer in the mini bar opposite the lounge. An ice-maker can be installed here as well, but the refer seems more practical for keeping cold beverages close at hand. A sink with a faucet hides out of sight under a Corian cover that is hinged with a lift strut. You wont misplace the cover and it wont be in the way. More storage lies under the lounge cushions, and there is even a shallow compartment over the engine room. All of these compartments are finished off inside with gleaming gelcoat, and have raised ribs to allow any water from items stored here to run off. The cabin door is solid for privacy when closed, and wide steps with a grabrail lead up to the opening in the windshield for access to the bow. Not practical to open the canvas to go forward? Narrow but passable sidedecks allow an alternate route forward.
ShowboatingSo while all this feeds the responsible part of your brain, and youre ready to settle down and accept the idea that leisurely cruising the waterways is a more practical approach, reach over and turn the ignition keys. Twin 6.2 MerCruiser MPI V-8s power to life, and the separate Livorsi throttle and shift sportboat controls give you complete command of the Bravo 3 drives. You dont have to give up the enticing gleam of stainless steel props. Nor do you have to give up performance, as our lightly loaded test boat exceeded 50 mph with the wind at its back (this was with full canvas up, and a factory-fresh delivered boat that hadnt had its final setup by the dealer). Average top speed was 43.5 knots (49.5 mph if you prefer) and cruise speed at 3,400 rpm was 27 knots. Fine-tuning of the drive and tabs may eke out another knot. Dont worry about keeping up with your less responsible sportboat buddies. Unless theyre running some wicked setup youll have no problem cruising alongside them. And at the end of the day theyll be hanging out on your boat for all the room and socializing. Theyll even want a ride, and be amazed at the sportboat handling of the Formula. Its so nimble that it doesnt feel like 31 feet long at speed. The best part may be that with the Imron painted-on graphics, attractive lines, unique anchor overhang on the bow and superior detailing and finish work, theyll have no idea just how practical (or affordable) the Formula 31 PC really is. That oughta shut up the little voices. At least for the next five years.

Importing a Boat to Australia
We have some of the best rates for RORO-shipping to Australia in the U.S. and we serve the ports of Brisbane, Adelaide, Port Kembla, Fremantle, and Melbourne. Whether you are a repeat customer or a first-time buyer, heres a few tips and reminders about buying, shipping, and importing boats and yachts to Australia from the U.S.
Finding the right boat.Buying a boat from another country often means dealing with people that you never met or dealt with in the past. Theres tons of free classified ads and Craigs list-type re-advertisers on the internet with deals just too good to be true. If it sounds too good, then, youd guessed it, it probably is a scam.
Do your research. Be realistic. Partner up with a Pro (like us).
We suggest you deal with us. Each week we get shipping, export, and certification inquiries from some of the countrys well respected marine dealers. We work in close cooperation with country-wide brand name retailers such as Marinemax and with the brand stores of Regal, Chaparral, Monterey, Bayliner, Larson just to mention a few.
We are a fully licensed Non Vessel Operating Common Carrier by the Federal Maritime Commission and as such we operate our own in-house shipping company. We have exclusive contracts with some of the largest steamship companies in the world. As one of the rather few NVOCCs we have the authority to buy and resell space on ocean-going cargo ships and issue our own bills of lading. What does this mean for you? As an individual? Well, by contacting us directly you are likely to save considerable time and money by dealing directly with the contract holder (as opposed to a string of middlemen).
Buying a boat directly from us or through our brokerage divisionBoats International, Inc. is our own in-house discount boat dealership. We buy bulk trade-ins from the big retailers but we also buy from banks and individuals as well. For the past 20+ years our focus have been to absorb distressed inventory and floor-plan boats from cash-strapped dealers and resell these locally and overseas. As we now are completing our store expansion project (September, 2011) we will be able to take on even more inventory then in the past and also have space over to showcase brokerage and consignment boats.
Most of our international buyers rely on our reputation and expertise as a key player on the U.S. domestic and international boat market and they seek our help to source the boat(s) that they seek. If we do not have what they seek in stock well be sure to find it through our network of dealers and banks for the right money.
Whether your buying a stock boat from us or one from another dealer we are well equipped to assist you with every step from inspection to final delivery of your boat or yacht to Australia. For example we can help you or your client with:
Finding a Boat or Yachtthat meets (or exceeds) your requirements in terms of condition, equipment, and of course price
Negotiate the Deal(including but not limited to title searches, accident reports, previous owner status, etc)
Survey & Physical Inspection(we have a longstanding partnership with a number of accredited marine surveyors, mechanics, and experts in most regions of the country)
Closing the Dealwe often act as intermediary for international buyers as most of our overseas clients prefer only to work with one turn-key partner
Pre-shipping Logisticsonce the deal is done and the boat paid for we assist in coordinating haul-outs, marina loadings, boat ramp pickups and inland U.S. land transport/trucking through our in-house logistics company Boatlogistic.com, Inc.
Pre-Export Preparation Sanitation, Fumigation, De-gassing of refrigerants.Australia has (as you probably know already) very specific and strict import restrictions for boats and vessels. The governing body is the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service (AQIS) which is part of the Australian Governments Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry. Depending on the geographical location of the boat and the required preparation of the vessel we can either prepare the boat for export to Austraia while underway, or we can have it completed at our marina in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Australian Shipping Services Teamour Australian Shipping Services Team assist with Sanitize boats & yachts prior to port delivery AQIS will stop all boats that are dirty and soiled to check for insect/parasite infestations
Fumigation of boats and cradles according to AQIS-standard (Methyl Bromide 3.0 lbs / 1,000 cubic feet / 24 hrs) De-gassing of
Air-conditioning Systems (AC) Refrigeration HVAC HFC HCFC Providing HVAC Customs Certification
With our certificates our customer are NOT REQUIRED to obtain the otherwise very expensive Australian import licenses.
Trailer Import Permit AssistanceThe Australian Governments Department of Infrastructure and Transport requires that all imported boat trailers have an Import Approval. You can read more about the approval at the Departments website or you can download the .pdf-application Import a Small Road Trailer here.
Import Duties and Goods and Services Tax (GST)If youre buying a US-made boat, according to the United States-Australia Free Trade Agreement, you arent required to pay the 5% duty (as well supply the required waiver forms). You must, however pay 10% GST on all costs associated with the purchase of the the boat, ocean freight, duty, wharf charges, customs broker fees, and destination port fees..
ISPM-15 No Worries Mate We Fumigate All Wooden Cradles & Provide Proof of FumigationInternational Standards For Phytosanitary Measures No. 15 (ISPM 15) is an International Phytosanitary Measure developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) that directly addresses the need to treat wood materials of a thickness greater than 6mm, used to ship products between countries. Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems. ISPM 15 affects all wood packaging material (pallets, crates, dunnages, etc.) requiring that they be debarked and then heat treated or fumigated with methyl bromide and stamped or branded,[1] with a mark of compliance. This mark of compliance is colloquially known as the wheat stamp. Products exempt from the ISPM 15 are made from alternative material, like paper, plastic or wood panel products (i.e. OSB, hardboard, and plywood).Customs Broker Fees & Destination Charges in AustraliaTheres tons of websites out there claiming to be the know-it-all for import questions concerning boats & yachts to Australia. Fortunately, we are not one of them. While we can recommend quite a few competent companies in Australia it is ultimately up to you to pick a customs partner in your home port. As is true for all facets of our business we believe that there are no shortcuts to sustained success in business (or life for that matter). That said we recommend that you seek the advice of an Australian Customs Broker who is licensed by the Customs Brokers and Forwarders Council of Australia Inc CBFCA-Australia Website to inquire about recent legal and import changes pertaining to your planned import.
