BARN FIND! A beautiful Art Deco ORIGINAL CONDITION 1957 14ft Elgin/Sears Kit boat with a 1958 35Hp Johnson Sea Horse outboard with electric start & choke! Both work great! Built by a gentleman that was a Master Carpenter by trade. This was the third boat of 3 that he built. When he passed a few months ago at 91 years of age, I purchased this from the estate. His name is still stenciled, using a 70's era label maker, on the engine cover. Pictures were taken immediately after the boat was emptied of mouse droppings, years of dust and getting a bath. I was careful to wash it with Murphy's oil soap, then wiped it down with Old English furniture oil. She really shines! She is quite the attention getter as people come up to her at gas docks and snap pictures! I've taken it out for a ride 5 times as of this listing...and will keep enjoying it until sold. Some paint has chipped off (minor) along the lower bow stem due to swelling and getting her bones flexed again. NOT ONE IODA OF ROT. Notice the attention to detail and how all the brass nail-heads appear spaced in equal distances. The transom is as solid as the day it was built! It simply looks & rides amazing! The beautiful graphics are original and look awesome! Everything works! Even the horn, lights and spotlight all work! The windshield looks like new! I have EVERY RECEIPT...and I mean EVERY RECEIPT...since the day he ordered it from Sears. The pictures of the motor are from the day I purchased it! Beautiful! Compression in each cylinder is @125psi each=Like New! I have approx. $2,500.00 in receipts for work I had done on the engine. Not wanting to take a chance of starting & possibly hurting the engine, It was taken straight to a 81yr old outboard mechanic who's specialty is antique engines. He went thru it top to bottom. Those detailed receipts are included as well. This boat flies across the water. I'd estimate speeds at 25-28mph! Also included are a few of the original life jackets still in their original plastic logoed bags, including the period original ski belt! Original ski rope included. Original anchor line still in its original paper wrapping included. Even the cabling tension springs on/in the transom corners shine like new! Original propeller and original spare included. I had original prop checked and balanced. New 1000 CCA Marine grade battery. Original 6 gallon tank in mint condition. Spare 4 gallon fuel tank with new hoses included (my personal tank). Speedo may work, but I keep forgetting to lower down the pickup to check it. She easily scoots along and rides well on10 gallons of gas (+ fully stocked cooler)! At some point the original trailer was switched out with a newer tilt trailer and stored on jack stands so as not to damage the tires. The trailer is in really nice condition. However, a couple of the rollers have a flat spot from the boat sitting on the same spot for soo long. Trailer lights work, but leak. Trailer wheel bearings have been repacked and looked like new! Tires actually look nice with lots of tread! I sincerely doubt that you will find another ORIGINAL kit boat such as this! It is truly a work of art. Even the flag pendant is original! Every Kit boat that I've seen, and they are rare, either needs restored or has been restored, and also lacks any original paperwork. I can't stress enough how ORIGINAL this boat, paperwork & manuals truly are! (Old map of local waterway, shown in pictures, not included). If I didn't have a business opportunity in Florida I'd never sell this boat. However, I know what the Florida sun can do to beautiful varnish. I just don't have the heart to take her down there & ruin what was obviously soo expertly built, & carefully preserved, for soo long. The boat is for sale locally. I reserve the right to stop the auction at any time. Feel free to contact me directly with any questions @ phone Eastern Standard Time (EST) before 9pm. Cash/Cashiers checks only. $1,000.00 non-refundable security deposit due within 48hrs of winning bid. Pick up only & is in the Toledo, Ohio area. Questions
Hello!
I recently acquired one of these boats and am slowly restoring it. My main issue right now is registering the trailer, which is similar to, if not exactly like the one shown here. I was wondering how you were able to register it, and if there was a Vin number anywhere on the trailer. Thank you!
