Description & Specifications:
1998 Donzi 16 Classic, also known as a Sweet Sixteen. The most iconic shaped and styled and powered watercraft ever made, instantly recognizable by a true boating enthusiast. Simply timeless, like everything great. 4.3-liter, six-cylinder MerCruiser Alpha-One, with through-prop exhaust. Motor trim makes for a perfectly dialed-in ride. The wrap around seating is as luxurious as the positioning arrangement is flexible. Upgraded Quicksilver throttle/shifter gives instantaneous response. Quicksilver stainless steel propeller, 21-pitch, is custom applied, but it is not right for high altitude. For a Colorado buyer, I will substitute two appropriate aluminum propellers alternatively suitable for mountain and Front Range altitudes. For low-altitude buyers, you would get the stainless-steel prop.
Length, 16'5". Beam, 6'11". Maximum draft, 2'5"; minimum draft, 1'. Deadrise, 23-degrees. Dry weight, 2400 pounds. Fuel tank, 33 gallons. Capacity, four persons.
MerCruiser sterndrive engine is 190-horsepower at-the-propeller, 4.3-litre [sic] MCM, six-cylinder, 262 cubic inch displacement. Motor starts very easily with its patented Thunderbolt Ignition. Purrs like a kitten at idle, so much so you might not even know it is running! Roars to life when the throttle is pushed, but the noise levels are noticeably quieter than the through-hull-exhaust version.
Trailer is a year 2000 Pacific, with leaf springs, and almost new tires. You will need to purchase a spare tire if you want one.
Also includes a paddle, a fire extinguisher, fender bumpers, dock lines, spare parts, and a few Mercury Marine maintenance items.
Registration (boat, as Colorado does not issue titles) and title (trailer) in hand.

Boat speed, like dog years, is measured differently; whatever the water speed, it typically feels like double that. On a Donzi, however, it feels like triple, because it is so close to the water! No editing or manipulation was done whatsoever to any of these.
Condition:
It is in pristine, clean, near barn-find condition. On a scale of 1-10, this one, on an uninflated basis, is a solid 8. Overall, ready to run the moment you by it!
The fiberglass on the boat is great, as is the gel coat. A couple of chips, less than 1/2-dime size, and some cracks and scratches here and there, including what is going on under the red stripe at the bow point. Very few minor issues, much, much less than you would expect for a boat this age. Top red/black stripe is bright and vibrant; side stripes are slightly faded, but still intact. Hull is clean and bright.
Interior is factory and is fresh because of how this was stored; no rips, no tears (except a minor one on the back of the captains chair, where it hit the throttle control), no cracks (except a slight one at the top of one of the side cushions, shown), no fading, no moldy smell, and clean. We shall send you on your way with a NAPA upholstery repair kit to fix the couple of minor blemishes.
Low-hour motor, estimated at 200 hours, is solid and energetic and you can feel the uniform compression in the power of acceleration as it pops up on plane. Because of the through-prop exhaust, you can barely hear the engine running at idle. Also, at speed, this version is much quieter than the through-hull version, and I greatly prefer it.
Interstate battery is Fall 2020, fresh and charged.
Cover fits well, is older and well used, and is cream colored, but it is definitelynot trailerable. I can show you were to get a custom Taylor Made cover for a good price.
It was too fast for the drone and for the near-dock videos, so we backed way off the throttle. When we opened this bad boy up down the center of the lake, it did 45+ miles per hour, at 8,400' and a lower-pitched propeller than it deserves. At sea level, this boat will go 50+ miles per hour.
Trailer is a galvanized. Some minimal bolt rust, but none apparent on the trailer itself. Bunks, both the lumber and carpet, intact. Tires are new, with approximately 200 miles on them (distance from Grand Junction, where they were put on, to Grand Lake) and only six months of weather exposure.
Gauges (speedometer, tachometer, voltammeter, temperature, trim, and fuel) all in working order; switches (lights, bilge pump, blower) also all in working order. Horn was working, now is not, but its intermittentcondition is probably just a fuse or loose connection, which I shall try to correct prior to end of auction.
Auction Terms:
Ten-day auction, ending Sunday night, June 27, 2021, at 6:45 MST, for maximum bidding opportunity not interfered with by at-work hours. Auction starts at a penny ($0.01) so that you can fairly bid against other potential buyers starting at the lowest possible price. Reserve price is low also, $1,000 below a standing offer price from a potential local private buyer, and far below the price which should be realized for this boat. As for delayed delivery, while possible due to recent retirement, it must be negotiated and arranged with seller beforehand. Subject to time constraints and other availability, we are thinking $1.25 per mile for the delivery trip, and $0.75 for the return trip, to cover fuel, vehicle usage, lodging, meals, etc. So, a 1000-mile trip, if agreed to, would be $2,000.

Donzi History & Keywords:
The history of Donzi is fascinating. Donald Joel Aronow was an American designer, builder, and racer of the famous Donzi, Magnum, Cary, Cigarette, and Formula speedboats. He built watercraft for the Shaw of Iran, Charles Keating, Robert Vesco, Malcolm Forbes, George H. W. Bush, and Lyndon Johnson. In 1964 he started Donzi Marine and made that brand an inernational success. With Jim Wynne and Walt Walters, he extended "those damned Donzis" (nicknamed by their competitors, because they always won races they entered) line of Thunderboat Row to include the Sweet Sixteen that has remained largely unchanged to this day. The current 2020 edition of this classic is listed for approximately $75,000+!
