PLEASE DO NOT BID IF YOU HAVE NO INTENTION OF BUYING!!!!! The Richard B. Owen is truly a one of a kind boat. Built in 1958 as a launch/ line handling boat for a yacht club on Long Island NY. The boat went unused and fell into disrepair, until the previous owner fully restored this working classic to its original glory. The boat sports a Westerbeke 4108 with a Borg Warner transmission turning a 13 " propeller. Holding 24 Gallons of diesel in 2 x 12 gallon tanks port and starboard. Oak ribs with yellow cedar planking in good shape. I'd replace a couple planks in a year or two. This tug is loaded with antiques and every one of them has a story. The horn is an old steam whistle off of a train powered by a 12 volt air compressor. The clock on board came from a U.S. Navy submarine. The shifter, the wheel..... it's all beautiful and loaded with character. Complete with mast and towing lights. VHF, chart plotter, 1/2 mile spotlight. I have endless parts and accessories for this boat. Spare alternator, water pump, fuel pump, hoses, belts, filters, hardware, bronze all over the place..... ready to go. Turn key boat.I have done everything with this boat and it has never failed me in any way. 54 miles from Boston to cape cod with a light boat, 54 miles back with a barge in tow. Never failed. Survey work off the beach, handles well at low rpm's and got me about 25' off the beach and back out safely. Safety boat for a swim across boston harbor. Even pulled a distressed swimmer out and on to the boat. Moved a 65' steel tug around the shipyard to another berth successfully. I've also had the boat loaded with my extended family, 4 kids and 4 adults, and been out to the harbor islands in April to explore. I use this boat every single day in almost every way you can think of and the Richard B. Owen has never disappointed. It's been a great boat for my family and my business, but Its time to move on. The truth is , the boat wants to be assigned light duty. I need more power and more speed. Would be great as a marina work boat or someone looking for a genuine treasure of a boat to enjoy.If I were to keep the tug, I'd plan doing the wheel house over in the next couple years. Showing some rot. Absolutely functional and mostly dry. Some repair replacement would also be sufficient.I'd also plan on replacing a few hull planks within the next few years. Had it out last year, did seam compound and a fresh bottom job. Again, absolutely fully functional as is, but things for a prospective buyer to think about.It devastates me to sell the Richard B. Owen, but often it's circumstance that dictates the decision. My needs have changed. I have a small harbor service business. We do moorings, salvage, dock building, dive support.
