I believe this boat to be a 1954, but I can find no model info for Crosby Aeromarine prior to 1956. I registered it as 1968 homebuilt in Fl as that was the age of the motor on it when I bought it. I bought this boat in Michigan in July 2013. It is in basically unrestored condition, but has been painted. The boat is totally solid with no know rot or delamination. I have seen online that Crosby built fiberglass hulls and wood decks in the early years. I believe this model was built prior to the wood deck boats as perhaps they were a tough sell in those days not looking like what people were used to. You'll see on the plaque that their is a serial number ending in 54. This is my only real guide as to the age. It had been in a family a long time I bought it from, but they had lost the paperwork.
Motor shown in some pics has been removed. no motor or controls are included with auction. I have run the boat with twin 20 hp Johnson's, a single 20 hp and a single force 50. For economy, I would recommend a 4 stroke 25 or 30. For style a late 50s big twin will plane it with 3-4 people and look super cool. boat is rated for up to 90 hp, should use a short shaft of either.Only has those front 2 seats. No evidence of ever having any rear seats, but a bench would be easy to add. Needs a new fuel tank. Has molded in spots for 2; 6 gallon tanks under the aft deck. Cable steering in good shape.
I have clear Florida title to the boat, but no papers on the trailer. The trailer is rusty, but I have towed it 1500 miles in the last year. The channel on the sides is heavy walled and I believe it to be structurally adequate for some time to come. I sold this boat in an auction last week. The buyer hired a "professional" transporter to haul the boat 1000 miles. The guy showed up and did not like the trailer. So to maintain perfect feedback, I canceled that sale and am relisting. In my opinion AND experience, the trailer is capable of towing this boat anywhere as long as the wheel bearings are re packed and lights are replaced and speed is keep reasonable. I can deliver for $.75 per mile as long as I have a month or two to get it done.
This boat gets tons of looks and head turns on the water and on the trailer.
