I believe this boat to be a 1954, but I can find no model info for Crosby Aeromarine prior to 1956. I registered it as 1968 homebuilt in Fl as that was the age of the motor on it when I bought it. I bought this boat in Michigan in July 2013. It is in basically unrestored condition, but has been painted. The boat is totally solid with no know rot or delamination. I have seen online that Crosby built fiberglass hulls and wood decks in the early years. I believe this model was built prior to the wood deck boats as perhaps they were a tough sell in those days not looking like what people were used to. You'll see on the plaque that their is a serial number ending in 54. This is my only real guide as to the age. It had been in a family a long time I bought it from, but they had lost the paperwork.
I replaced the 1968 Johnson with a 1988 Force 50. This was a fresh water motor off a pontoon in Alva, FL. Original controls and cable adapted to fit the Force and electric choke and start on the dash. Motor starts, runs and idles well. Has 130 psi on both cylinders.Only has those front 2 seats. No evidence of ever having any rear seats, but a bench would be easy to add. Needs a new fuel tank. Has molded in spots for 2; 6 gallon tanks under the aft deck.I have clear Florida title to the boat, but no papers on the trailer. The trailer is rusty, but I have towed it 1500 miles in the last year. The channel on the sides is heavy walled and I believe it to be structurally adequate for some time to come. This boat gets tons of looks and head turns on the water and on the trailer.
