1962 Correct Craft 16' "Atom Skier"MahaganyWoodTournamentBoat
This is an Original Unmolested Unit
It's all original, the wood has never been replaced. 22 yrs ago it was refinished by hand, no power tools. Original motor was froze up and broke. I replaced with a matching #'s block. It's a 283 with all the original water manifolds and marine hook ups, Stewart Warner instruments, velvet touch forward neutral and reverse. Didn't originally come with back seat, we added it. I've owned this boat for over 30 yrs.
It has the original windshield (glass) its ready to go with no problems-except it leaks! The transom & bottom need work, takes in way too much water. Been told to fiber glass it. I know that's wrong!! For the preservation of the boat. All other wood is good but needs professional restoration. We have used it for over twenty yrs, towing around 2 generations of nieces & nephews. Lots of memories. Don't think I said it all but you get the idea.
Don't have the storage, time or money to treat this unit right. Oh Ya, it has an awesome custom built channel iron trailer single axle. The trailers worth a good amount! I am motivated to sell. Really must see to appreciate this boat. She's a beauty.
Born Again Story
Correct Craft Organization (since 1925) has encountered several political difficulties in the years theyve been in business, but have survived to lead the way in the boating industry today. The Correct Craft Organization is a very Christian family orientated company.
This boat was neglected for close to 15 years, before being acquired by Bob & Leila White of Eugene, Oregon. The boat was kept in dry storage for a number of years.
Then, Ken Minyard & Family of Springfield, Oregon became involved.
The boat was disassembledCleaned & Checkedfor dry rot.
IT WAS OK!!
This was a hand restoration projectNO power sanding tools were used. It was hand stripped and sanded, and then a hand-rubbed 4 step finish stain process was used. Then 10 coats of hand brushed Interlux Finish, that was block sanded between coats.
While Ken worked a full time job, he also vigorously worked week-ends, mornings and evenings for 6 to 7 weeks with his family to complete the project for their vacation at the end of July.
THANKS to Ken Minyard and family &their Love of this wood boat.
